Which Header should I get???
I need help finding an inexpensive but decent header. I'm leaning towards a 4-2-1 because I want to maintain what little mid level power that I have, I'm also thinking of a stainless to deal with the crappy Canadian weather up here. I was considering either DC, GReddy, or Kamikaze...???
Oh yeah it will be on a 2000 SiR, with an AEM CAI, and a soon to come APEXi W/S cat back exhaust. Any ideas ?????? ANYONE??????

hey....easy with the bitch slap huh?? anyways another question....is the stainless DC worth the extra bucks or would a ceramic do???? I'm just worried about it rusting out from our Canadian winters....I've heard some horror stories.
Anyone got some ice for my face?

Re: Which Header should I get??? (Loco Honkey)
thanks for all the replies so far guys but as far as mugen, and spoon, I said inexpensive......I'm on a pretty tight budget. DC I colud probably afford but is it the most bang for my buck as far as headers go? Also I'm confused between stainless and ceramic.....I was told the ceramic rust out really quick, any truth to this?

Look into the new DC JDM spec 4-1 with the 2.5" collector. You can get one for around the same price as other DC headers, but the larger collector and bigger primaries make it perform much better, especially as you add more mods to your car.

I would recommend the DC Sports 4:1. I have been very happy w/ mine! I got the 4:1 Ceramic Coated one and it has been on the car for over 1 year now and still looks brand new. I didn't notice any loss in power when I installed my 4:1, but I did notice the mid-range increased a little, and it increased the high end a lot! I ran a 15.7 sec. 1/4 mile stock, and with just my DC 4:1 I ran a 15.2!:D The SS headers are nice too, but many people have problems w/ the flanges rusting on them. Hope this helped.

hey Tony thanks for the info, you did help but I have a question....what are your winters like over there?? I'm only asking cause I'm worried about my header rusting out too quick.
Also does anyone have any comparable times with a 4-2-1??

i think import tuner did a header test on a civic ex and it gained 8 hp at peak and around 15 in the midrange. powercore headers...sounds pretty good to me.

Powercore...thats what they're called?? I've never heard of em before...
Does anyone know anything else about these (i.e. rusting out, cost, ease of installation, etc...)?

I can't believe nobody mentioned the APEX-i GT 4-2-1! I have had no problems, no corrosion, and HAVE seen small gains. It won't be noticeable (1-2 tenths off my ¼ mile time) but it's worth the $$ I paid IMHO. Go with the APEX-i, very good quality header.
P.S. I live in N.E. and the winters here aren't the prettiest. My header's been through one winter now and no bad corrosion……just some fingerprints from my careless install.

If you plan on building an all motor car i'd get a JDM 4-1 with a test pipe. I'm trying to decide between that and a comptech rear sway bar now.

Re: Which Header should I get??? (Loco Honkey)
I agree, everyone has DC stuff in their car, but Rice?
DC Sports has good quality, so why is it rice?
Honda Optional Equipment Uses DC SPORTS to make their products, so is Honda OEM Rice? Sorry, a little off topic.
Now, as far as a header... All of the headers you mentioned seem pretty good. Pacesetter, ummm?. JDM 4-1 is decently priced, so is DC. Mugen and Spoon are little bit expensive, I heard APEXi is great, but a lil' pricey. It really depends on how fat your pockets are. DC is priced well, remember it's domestic and ricey though we wouldn't want anything made in the USA. J/K. Good Luck.

Ceramic is better than stainless for two reasons- won't rust as easily and it holds the heat in better. But, it's not as shiney.
GO JDM 4-1, you'll thank us later.

Re: Which Header should I get??? (00_sir)
The DC Sports 4-2-1 one peice header was rated among the best with Sport Compact Car Mag and Super Street. It produced the most usable HP. The 4-1 produces top end HP, the 4-2-1 produces more mid-range or street useable power.

Re: Which Header should I get??? (rlovrin1)
that was a test also done with only i/e as the other mods on the car. which renders the test useless because it doesn't take into account the layout of the engine.
the dc of course would fair the best on that test because the primaries are just about the same size as the stock ones, and with stock exhaust manifolds lacking a 4-2-1 or 4-1 design, there's obviously going to be the biggest gains there with just i/e. the mugen isn't built to produce power with just i/e. the mugen is for powerhouse n/a motors. have you looked at the primaries on that thing? large and long, perfect if you are pushing serious hp. i'll guarantee you anything that if you motor is built, the mugen will make the dc look like a three-legged sloth. no comparison.
what you need to do is figure out what your plan is for your car. if you are going to stay mildly modded (i/h/e/maybe pullies, cam gear, etc), then go with a dc (although dc's quality is lacking). if you are more serious, then i'd say greddy. the greddy headers are top quality, and give you more potential than the dc. and if you know what you are doing and what you are building, go with a mugen. the price difference may seem like a lot up front, but trust me after your motor is built, it will be one of the most worthwhile pieces under your hood.

Re: Which Header should I get??? (ahcjar103)
I have a DC 4-2-1 SS, and live in upstate ny. The winters are hell, and it has held up very well, still shiny and all, but it did turn the really gold-almost brown color, and the flanges have a little bit of surface rust. But, about the pacesetter-dont get, a kid down the road had one on his GSR and the collector rotted out in less than 8 months, sent it back, and they refunded him, but still.....junk. I'd get the DC SS again, for the price range your in. Group Buy has allot off right now on DC.
