Default Header set up for a 96-00 non v-tec(for the ones who don't know)

For some who know and for others who don't know non vtec motors in the 96-00 civic don't have a normal exhaust system. most have a header to a cat to the pipe and then a muffler. well in a my car a 96 civic, it goes exhaust manifold a vertical cat, then like a down pipe to the tail pipe. i have been told but a shop you can just bolt up a header and get a race cat and then make changes to the pipe to fit right. i have a few ?'s can you extented a o2 sensor, and has anyone reading this done it? what are the power gains like with a good header and a decent cat?

You can buy a header specifically for the D16y7 (non-vtec) that extends to the exhaust and has no cat.

Yeah the engine in my 97 civic cx hatch is a D16y7. The cat was located on the lower part of the header like you explained. When I swapped in a b16a2 the headers that came on that met right up to the b-pipe of my apexi n1 catback exhaust system for the stock CX hatch. So what I am going to have to do is take it to a muffler shop and have them cut a section of the b-pipe off to make room for a boltable cat.

you can extend the o2 sensor by cutting the electrical tape up a bit and pullng the wire out further, then just taping them all up again (what i did). the chikara kit comes with extra wires where you can cut the wires and extend them.

If you use an EX header (stock or aftermarket) it will eliminate your cat if it runs to your stock exhaust. (im almost 100% sure on this)

oh yeah, to the post above....he swapped a whole B16 in, not just the exhaust manifold (header) Rick
