Header question: ebay or name brand?
Hey all,
In a nutshell I have a B16A2 (00' em1)
I am running a type R replica header 4-1.
It's the same junk as the ebay headers pretty much.
Exhaust and cat have been done. (vibrant race cat - skunk2 cat back)
I was wondering if it would be worth it to put in a name brand header (i.e. DC, megan, etc) or just keep my current one. There's no problems with it but it is cheap so I am wondering if I would net any gains with a better header?
My hunch is no seeing as headers in general don't give you anything much to begin with.
Has anyone ever compared the two? If so, was there a notable difference?

No, it won't change much. The only true performers I've seen from dyno charts and research are the full race headers. Anything else is pretty generic in terms of power. DC, Megan, ebay etc

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
and like everyone else said, any gains over the eBay header, if any at all, would be extremely minimal and unnoticeable.

You will notice more if you have an intake and exhaust upgrade. Remember , Headers will do you no good if the exhaust air just gets stopped up at your restrictive stock muffler.
If you upgrade the whole exhaust and intake , It will make the car feel like it is not straining when you mash the petal.
As far *** what type to buy. . .
You get what you pay for. Buy name brand because lots of testing was done to get them to the highest quality. Cheapos will not produce the same effect as a good one.
Also depending on the kind you get . .
There are diff shaped models to give you more low end power and others for more high end power.
What do you want?

Motor is stock...for now anyway I focused on the other items first. urethane torque mounts, grounds, suspension, brakes, clutch, flywheel, strut barcing, I/H/E and wheels.
Next on my list is spark, cams, tune.
I might build the motor but that will only be when I am no longer dd'ing the car.

Re: Header question: ebay or name brand?
you could still pick up some hp over that ebay header if you went with spoolin toda replica, or rmf narrow replica there both proven to make great power on stock blocks

Re: Header question: ebay or name brand?
stick with your knock off type r replica
yes you could go to a big name brand and upgrade and depending on brand get more hp mostly with a tune but unless you are worried about every last hp you could squeeze out of the motor I wouldn't worry about it

None.
With ebay headers, you either get lucky and it lasts, or you don't and it cracks. He was one of the lucky ones and his was fine, so we said he should just use it because it is working fine. I wouldn't recommend taking the risk though.
