Default Header Question

When putting the stock header on, do you HAVE to use a torque wrench, or are there other ways around this? I just don't feel like spending $100 on it right now....

I didn't use one and have had 0 problems.

For internal work I would use one. But for an exhaust header, you can get by without it. You should recheck the bolts after a week or so too.

EDIT: I know this isn't the 100% sure fire way to not have a problem and that you should ALWAYS use a torqe wrench and torqe to EXACT specs laid out in article 3 subsection J under paragraph iii. cause I know people will jump all over me for it.

You have to find a cheap torque wrench, it'll do the same job as a more expensive one. I paid $30 canadian for mine, and it works great... or find a friend with one that you can borrow. When it comes to bolting something on to the engine, I would always use a torque wrench. I'm not worried about something coming loose... I'm more concerned with breaking one of those precious little studs off in the cylinder head and having to make an expensive trip to the machine shop, not to mention a hell of a lot more work and down time... unless you can live with an exhaust leak.

Bottom line, use a torque wrench.

You should always use a torque wrench when dealing with your motor.

With that said, I never do, when it comes to bolt ons. Anything inside the motor, I'm very careful and torque to spec. But outside, like intake manifold, throttle bodie, header, etc, I just tighten it on.

a torque wrench is awalys better but you can do it without one just do it in the proper order and just make sure it does not leak cause if it does it will let extra air past the 02 sensors causing your car to run a little rich.

but yea anything internal a torque wrench is a must
