Default Header paint doesnt work

Ok so i posted on here a few days ago about cleaning up my header. So i took the header off and then blasted it, sanded it all down and did every step i was supposed to take to prep this thing. My only problem is that i didnt have an oven to bake it in after i painted it. But it clearly shows that there is a way to do it while its on the car so i followed those steps and heres what i have now...

Here we are before startup

And 2 minutes after startup

Stayed pretty much the same so far but i've only driven it around for the 30 minutes that it says on the paint..

seems to me thats not header paint. You got engine paint and it is not a high enough heat resistance

Because you MUST preheat it to bake it on. PERIOD. Anytime you apply it before hand it will reach temperatures in excess too quick and there you go.

I say get rid of the red, it's heinous. My opinion is free with my knowledgable answer.

15 minutes at 250°F
30 minutes at 600°F
1 hour at 800°F
30 minutes at 1,000°F
ALL CURING SHOULD BE DONE SLOWLY

i have a strong, justified hatred for VHT. i would recommend never ever to use VHT on any part of a car.

Went with red pretty much just to see how it would turn out, didnt want to go black like i've seen hundreds of times.

Was going to do the valve cover the same color but now i know i'll probably just powder coat it red instead of using that sh** paint.

I agree with starion, i think you should have found an oven to bake it in somehow. It is kinda weird that the paint burned off the #3 and #4 runners before the others, I would think they would have all burned off at the same rate.

As for the comment by one user about VHT paints sucking, I don't have experience with all there paints, only there black wrinkle paint and I used it on my Valve Cover, stripped all the old paint off, 4 coats of VHT Black wrinkle paint, in the oven it went. Then let to cool over night and then put back on and its been holding up great. The valve cover however does not get nearly as hot as the Header.

how long ago did you use vht? they have recently changed their formula and i can say, the old formula was much better of a paint than the new stuff. the way you can tell is when they switched, the new cans have the blue nozzle.

This is not new news! Header paint does NOT work! That's why you rarely see colored headers! When you do see colored headers, it is because they are professionally ceramic coated!

why paint it to begin with? use header wrap, and it will actually serve a purpose. it will cool down the engine bay quite a bit.

Yeah um two things. Red headers dont look good. And dont paint a b series valve cover. It'll never look as good as an OEM red integra type r one. Just buy the real deal

i dont know man my header was painted with the same stuff from autozone header paint flat black
and it looks so good in person.

sprayed alot of coats and it looks as the day i spayed it on 5000 miles later
i didnt oven bake anyhting either. I use that paint on everyhting now because the flat black looks so damn good. i just sanded and painted didnt even remove most of the rust and grease and it still sticks

Anyone think that cylinders 3 and 4 could be running extremely lean? If those cylinders were lean enough that primary would be glowing RED hot, and no paint is gonna withstand that!
