header on d16y7
yes, I did search.. here and other forums.. couldn't find the right info.
awhile ago, I started to get holes in my exaust system, ended up getting a new axle back exaust, and when I had my car up in the air getting it inspected I realized how rusted and how close it is to getting a few more holes in it... so I decided to redo the exaust (temp, because I'm going to do a turbo setup within the next year or 2 after I graduate from college in dec and get a decent job)
since I have the d16y7 engine, the stock cat is right under the header (infront of the engine) I bought a decent cheap header and highflow cat to use temporarily to get rid of the stock crap for the time being.
I know that I'm going to have to extend the o2 sensor wires to screw into the exaust in the header, and below the cat, but if I remember right, the lx and dx civics have a 2nd o2 sensor somewhere along the line.
after I get the header installed, I'm going to have a custom pipe bent to connect the cat to the axle back exaust piece (C pipe if I remember correctly)
is there anything else I should know about doing this? I'm familiar with replacing a header on the EX civics, but the LX and DX I'm not too familiar with because of how the exaust is set up.
and before anyone rags on me "why are you wasting your money on a d series?" well maybe I want to have a little fun with my little D serise and see what they are actually capable of.
thanks for any help

i thought those were y5's header/cat infront of the engine...y7's are under the car...i think you got a d16y5 out of a hx or something...but you should be able to put a regular header on it...might throw a code though, but i dont know

nah.. it's a d16y7.. says so right on the block.
I wanted to get the header on today sometime in my garage, but I noticed that since where the cat is located, it's not going to bolt up right away, so I have to wait until a guy gets back to me on when this week he can get the tubing ready so I can put it on, then drive there, or install everything there (he's a friend of my cousin and will do it for next to nothing)

I put the car up and took some pics underneath. it looks like ****. I realized that I can get everything but the cat on today, and when I have the car raised at the shop get the cat installed along with the pipe. you'll notice how shitty the pipe looks. (11 years old)

Dude stop talking right now! It is a D16Y7 exhaust cuz I have the same car.
The best thing to do, if you must buy a new header is to get one and buy and aftermarket cat. Then you can just go to a shop and have it all welded in and youll be good to go. Probably gonna cost you about $40-$70 to get everything welded in depending on what shop you go to.... maybe a lil more cuz theyll have to lenghten the O2 wiring.
Hope that helps a lil.

Re: (Stingray96)
I think it looks alot better now:
the *** end of the mighty D
out with the old...
looks a hell of alot better than stock
they look kinda gold now
I just have to lengthen the o2 sensor wires. I'm throwing a code and running a bit rich. when I was reading about changing the header, I noticed people talked about the smell... I didn't think it would be like this.. but I kinda like it.
I'm waiting to put the cat on when I get everything set up. it does have a nice sound to it..

I have the cat sitting in one of my racing seats out in the garage.. it's staying there until I get the car up in the air.
I'm still throwing a code.. but it's fine for now.. I do like the "extra" top end power.. lol.. what little there is.
it's just a fun little car to mess with and learn things.
I ordered a set of brackets from CA.. I just hate how ups takes a week to get here.. damn carshow is on the 4th..

believe it or not.. it's just one of those 60 dollar ones on ebay...
like I said in the first thread, my entire exaust system was rusting and starting to fall apart (hole in muffler 2 years ago, lost my B pipe driving down the interstate) so I decided to replace the rest of it this summer..
I'm not huge into performance as some of you guys are, so more or less, this will work for me. I'm not looking at getting 400whp out of a d series n/a or anything
I'm redoing the interrior as well.. have to get the rear seats and doors reapolstered.. person I bought it off of smoked and there are cig burns in some places

Re: (jdmztrane)
hey, what does thowing a code mean and what are the o2 sensors? i have a d16y7 in my cx hatch and im gonna probably want to redo the exhaust system too because it is kind of rusty. i know what a catback and headers are but it sounded complicated to install when you were talkin about it. i just wanna good runnin motor for now and i might do an engine swap someday. but it's still far away i think. how much do you think everything will cost altogether?

I think I payed 200-250 for my ravin axle back (lifetime warranty.. couldn't complain), 100ish for the header and cat, then just ordered a B-pipe from su mmit racing for 124ish. should be here tomorrow.
throwing a code is when your CEL (Check Engine Light) comes on., mine's on because I don't have my cat on my car for my o2 (oxygen sensor) to give the OK code to the ecu. it's like a dummy light "oh ****! check engine light is on! gotta take it to the honda garage and get raped outta the *** for no reason at all"
you can do a full exaust for abound 400-900 bucks.. depending on what you want
I just went with the aftermarket company, because it was actually cheaper than what I was quoted, and it'll bolt right up instead of having to be welded.

Re: (ek9-hatch)
The axle back is a step down from the catback. It is just piping from your rear axle to the muffler. Catback is piping from the cat, or in the case of us y7 owners, then end of the manifold to the muffler.
Additional question along these lines, if I plug my downstream o2 sensor into the rear of a resonator, is it still going to throw a code? because that is the plan.
