Default Head gasket procedure... 99 Civic EX

After developing and dealing with a code thrown (P0420), doing a lot of replacement of parts, I'm coming to the conclusion that I think I've got a head gasket problem.

I've never personally replaced a gasket, but I'm willing to try once I've had the problem correctly diagnosed as such.

Q: Aside from replacing the physical gasket itself, and already having done the timing belt about 10k ago, what should I consider replacing or having done to the head (or anything else, for that matter...) once I'm in there?

I would obviously have the gasket to worry about, but should the head be sent out for some work, or to check to see if it's warped (or whatever it does when it goes bad)?

Was hoping to get an answer from a tech or mechanic on this. Thanks for your consideration, fellow Honda-Tech folks. ~ rob
