Default head gasket placement

i jus got my head back from the machine shop yesterday. but i wanna get the nasty mixture of water and oil out of the water jackets. does anyone know how to do this?

Vaccume it out and get some kind of metal brush to clean it to bare metal. go to autozone they have a few things to scrub it with and vaccume it all out with maybe a shopvac or put rags in their to absorb the mixture.

one more thing. this really doesn't have anything to do with the title of this thread. but say i wanted to time my vehicle without having to take the crank pulley off. cud i set piston no. 1 all the way up. wud that be tdc.???
