head gasket job/performance. advice?!?!

so yea i have a 1993 del sol d16z6, im getting a new head. and im probably getting a new cam, nothing crazy. ... this one..http://bisimoto.net/store/index.php?...products_id=63

and headers stuff like that. and im getting the gasket set from ebay, with all types of gaskets. while im at it ill do the head gasket. so for the head gasket job is there anything i have to make sure NOT to do, or to watch out for. its my first time doing one but i no lots about engines. any lil tips and stuff will be great!!! :D and... for adding more hp anything to add? lol.

when you upgrade a cam, its smart ( or pretty much stupid not to) to upgrade intake, headers, and exhaust. with a cam allowing more air in, it'll greatly depend on intake, headers, and exhaust to provide enough/ flow enough in/out

it'll also need a tune

lol i dont sound like a downer but im pretty sure you as well want to get efficient power from what you buy

after you get all that installed, tow the car to someone that can dyno tune your car, they charge about $150-$300 and they will take care of all the timing adjustments. and you will get more power out of your parts with a good tune program.

I know theres alot of people that can chip your car based upon a few key factors, like weight, motor size, parts, ect. but you can sometimes end up with a bad tune, or a setting that may be to extreme for your setup. I would take a tunner that uses a dyno. That way they can tune your car to the parts that you use, and for real driving conditions, as well as you will learn what Hp you put to the wheels. they should be able to use your stock ECU and also add things like a 2 step program for drag launches, things that are needed for built motors and racing.

you dont need to have it towed, you can drive it there, it will just run bad

and i forgot you need to get your ecu chipped, that can costs about 50-65$, cheaper if you do it yourself

are u sure... im not putting a crazy cam in. i dont want to go threw that much money/ extra work for not that much hp lol. the cam said its only 10% increase. maby ill just stick with the stock cam? :/

Re: head gasket job/performance. advice?!?!

No need really the stock parts will have plenty of headroom for extra performance without changing anything else. You will see decent gains with a properly tuned cam change.

he'd see MORE if he had free-er flowing engine lol,

Re: head gasket job/performance. advice?!?!

I just say tow, cause depending on how you drive, and how far your drive to get to the tunner shop, you could end up hurting the motor, and the new parts you just installed. there is a possibilty that you may make it with no problems at all. But I have AAA and its free tow, I pay $7 a month. I don't know anyone that doesn't have AAA?

And both of your guys are right, he will see a power improvement with just the cams/tune alone, but with the extra things like intake manifold, throttle body, header, valve job, port & polish heads, intake, all of these together will be better. Just think about it, if you have SOHC with lets say (just to make the math easy) 100hp and you only do the cams, 10% =10hp gain if that. But if you add a few other thinks, you could get 125hp and 10%= 12.5 hp gain, and so on. But the 10% gain was tested by who and where? don't trust what the box says, see it in action or talk to someone that has used that part on similar car and what they thought about it.
