Hawk pads

I searched found different info on pads. I was just wondering which hawks to get the Street Performance ones or the HP pads. Pros and cons please. I have stock rotors.

People claim with the Hawk HP oppose to the SP that there is noticeable noise and rotor wear, and dust. Anyone else notice that.

I got brembo blanks and Hawk HP and you would think that i have 4 wheel disc on how fast i stop. No Fading what so ever. Very happy with them. Hawk HP https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I guess it depends on a few things. What car you have, what brakes you have, what you plan on doing with the car (i.e. street driven, HPDE's, autoX)

Re: Hawk pads (StRacer)

Go with Hawk HP (for street), it's fine for everyday street use. Heard that these hold up for light track use as well. HP+ is the more aggressive pad and is more for track use - I think these will wear out rotors fast and put out a lot of brake dust.

Re: Hawk pads (nonsense)

Well right now it has aftermarket suspension, no real power upgrades. I plan on autoX but that will be from time to time.

there's a good description here:

I'd go with the HPS if I were you . . . or as someone said Axxis Ultimates.

vtec94civic 10-14-2004 03:58 PM

i have hawk hp street all around witha eg6 rear disc conversion, power slot rotors, and earl's stainless steel brake lines and the car stops on a dime with no fade at all. the car stopped much better with the hawk's opposed to the autozone pads i had in before.

Looks like I will go with the Hawk street pads.

I acutally bought some cheapy autozones for $10. They seem to work just as fine as the stock did.

how is the brake dust on the hawk street pads? anyone know? i have the axxis pads and i dont like them very much. i have brembo slotted rotors and i think the fade with these pads is bad. plus they put out a shit load of brake dust. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

if it hadn't just rained i could show you... the dust isn't horrible, but expect to wash your wheels once a week or so...

Re: (mMmdoOonut)

does anyone use ceramic pads?(AEM and whatnot)

Re: (R Thizzel)

So the Hawk HP is drivable on street? just wanting to make sure that it doesnt make the squeling noice... and not too much dust... and rotor friendly...

its for a 99Civic EX chasis, B16A 2nd Gen, Front discs, rear drums....

Mr. Vapor 10-21-2004 01:24 PM

Re: (Naturally Aspirated)

I run the Hawk HP+ on my brembos. This is a SOLID street set up, no fade whatso ever. HIGHLY recommended. who ever said Axxis should be shot...those things are junk

thank you! it looks like me and u are the only ones who think this. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif for axxis

Re: (Naturally Aspirated)

i got some squeal after a few months... but only from the right front. i was told it might have been an installation issue and not due to the pads themselves...

Turbo E 10-25-2004 12:49 PM

i used the Hawk HP-S. awesome. and yah all pads dust. i don't care what they say. if you keep the rims clean often, the brake dust wont BOND to the rims.

derspi 10-25-2004 02:05 PM

Re: (R Thizzel)

I agree too, had Axxis pads on my previous car and those things just blew chunks. THE worst brake I have ever used on any car I've ever owned. I don't care what anyone says but if you're more worried about high levels of brake dust, you're probably not too worried about improved braking performance. It's not always the case but most of the better stopping pads produce a good amount of brake dust.

nonsense 10-25-2004 03:03 PM

Re: (derspi)

I've used the same set of Axxis Ultimates on my car for 2 track days and 1000's of miles in between. They always stop well, never fade, are nice to the rotors, and still have a good amount of pad left. That being said, I don't see that high of top speeds at the track with my car (~90 MPH tops), so the brakes aren't really all that taxed. I think these are great pads for street, autox, and light track use. Any pad will be "crap" if it's used past its intended heat range.

If I go to a faster track and/or get more power, I'm going to look into getting some Hawk HP+'s for the track. I'll most likely still run Ultimates on the street tho . . .

Hawk + have been good https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif but the dust https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

I don't have the HPS on my civic, but I do have a set on my girl's Maxima. They are very nice pads, however they are somwhat noisy (depending on application I guess). There is also quite a bit of brake dust.
