Default having an engine check light

yesterday after warming up my car and driving it, my engine check light went on which i also noticed my speedometer not working but only the tach and the gas works. when i turn off the car and turn it back on it turns off but after like 2 minutes, it turns back on. i have a z6 motor and im not sure if its my vafc having loose connections to my ecu. i even checked that the wires were intact. whats up with my car?
