Default Having bad starting issues *update* *its now dead in the yard* help!

I have been dealing with this problem a while but it seems to have been getting worse recently.

Ill turn my key to the start position, my lights will dim, and then nothing happens. Some times it will just pause for a little while and then start up, and other times I have to just turn the key back and try to start it again. The colder it is outside the worse the problem is. As soon as the starter starts to turn the engine fires right up and runs fine.

I went to orileys and they said it was either the starter or the starter relay.

What do you guys think?

I will go out on a limb here and say it is your ignition switch. I had a very similar problem and I replaced it and it starts right up. Here is a link to an ebay auction on what I bought.

Is there a way I can test for that?

Bench test your starter. Your solenoid might be on its way out.

Ok now its doing something different. One it starts it will just die as soon as i let off the key. It does this over and over again and just tonight it died at a stop sign and is now broke down in my yard.

I took the ignition switch apart the other day when i thought that was it but that didnt fix it. Im going to have to do something tomorrow as this is my daily driver. What should I do?

Any check engine lights? Make sure your coolant temp. sensor is plugged in properly. It's a common problem when it starts getting cold out. Also check to make sure all of your grounds are good.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. There's a diagram in the FAQs sticky showing how to test it.
