Icon3 Have you herd of the "Move Over Law"

(this isnt me just a email thats been going around )

http://www.moveoveramerica.com/

The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license
and a mandatory court appearance

Important Law to Share:

I wanted to let my friends know about the CA move over law.
My son got a ticket on Pleasant Hill coming back from Wal-Mart.
A police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of
the road giving a ticket to someone else. My son slowed down to

pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car
immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. My son and I

had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any

emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you

are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license
and a mandatory court appearance.

Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law.

It is true (see details at the following web address). It states that

except two states, all the other US states (even Canada ) enacted
similar kind of law.

i can see the good and bad in this law.. its good so the officer and the person being pulled over is safer, less chance of a hit and run, but bad because the cops are going to use this to their advantage to pull people over.

About ****ing TIME! I used to do ride alongs with my local fire department and you would get people that just WOULD NOT MOVE and theres a house on fire. Im suprised they dont let them just ram the people. If it was your house on fire I bet you wouldnt care how they got there as long as they got there fast. Stupid people deserves tickets for being stupid.

I think this is a great law. Yes it can be a pain sometimes especially in rush hour traffic, but to many police and fire men and woman are being hit by passer's by.

I have heard of this but don't know if its in place in NC. I think its a good thing though.

Whenever on a back country road and a cop has someone pulled over, I slow way down and go into the other lane a bit(if possible) to give some space..I don't want to hit them and I don't want them doing something stupid like not looking into the mirror and swing there door open and fuc* my car up.

Whenever on the freeway I move over into another lane, again to give THEM space and ME space. Most people don't move over because most of your soccer moms out there driving SUVs are stupid and have no common sense.

I still have a chip on my shoulder towards soccer moms and there SUVs from my old sport biking days. They are always on the cell phone talking or texting, they are always in a hurry to take there kids to 10 different things after school that involve practice(IE: soccer, etc).

There's no way this is fairly new..

I was pulled over in Tallahassee by a state trooper, similar situation (had someone pulled over) back in 07'.

I completely understand why they would put it into place but that penalty is way too harsh..

TX has something similar; you must either move over a lane, or you must slow down to twenty below the speed limit.

They have that same law in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota. In various locations, there are signs posted the say you MUST move over for stopped emergency vehicles. Its a little hazy weather or not you have to change lanes when a passenger vehicle is stopped, but I tend to do that anyway. Its really a common courtesy which avoids needless car-pedestrian accidents. It sucks your son got a ticket for it, but i feel its a good law.

I have known about laws like this since i've been driving (7 years)... Pretty common sense kind of thing as listed above. Move over for emergency vehicles or someone with vehicle trouble on the shoulder of the road... And for christ sake, stay the hell out of the passing lane if there is more than one lane! I hate that!

This is a law here in Delaware as well. They don't enforce it much as long as you don't nearly hit them.

Well I live and Florida and got my license in North Carolina but this has always been the law as far as I know. I guess I've only had my license for 5 years though. Seems like a good law to me.

Thats a law here in washington, a damn good one too, but I don't know how much the ticket is if you do get pulled over for it.
