Default have a question about a eg hatch starting

Hey i am thinking about purchasing a eg hatch shell with a d15b7 engine in it but the guy im getting it from says the engine is good but it needs a ecu, shift linkage, and axles and he has all those parts and is throwing them in. I'm just curious if i can some how test the engine out to see if it works, like does the car need all those things to start or only the ecu because if so i can tell him to install the ecu so i can turn over the engine to see if it works?

If you just want to see it run, the ecu is all you need (assuming the motor isn't missing anything serious).
