have a heater core question
is it difficult to replace a heater core in an eg hatchback, and does anyone know where to get the diagram to do it if there is one. please help its cold this winter!!

not difficult, but just a lot of annoyin' work to be done. you have a bunch of shiet to remove just to get to that dang heater core.
- disconnect battery, and remove (if you have AC)
- drain coolant
- disconnect outlet heater hose and valve heater hose and cable-to-valve
- remove 1 nut on firewall, on engine bay side
- safely release refrigerant (if you have AC)
- remove a bunch of junk just to remove dashboard (ie: hazard light and other switches/buttons, radio, climate control and cables, lower-dash center console, glove box, passenger side SRS if you have it, wirings)
- remove steering column brace and lower steering column
- if you have AC, disconnect high and low pressure lines on firewall from engine bay-side. remove AC box. otherwise, remove vent chamber between blower and heater box, if you don't have AC
- remove curved piping on passenger side
- remove heater core box. be sure to tilt the spouts upwards (so you don't drip any over into your car)
- finally you can remove your dang heater core
this would be a good time to vacuum, wipe down, and just clean all that dust and, possibly, coolant spots/leaks. also, be sure to orgaranize all your screws into sandwich bags and mark down where they all go. or you're screwed.

ps: one more thing. don't buy an aftermarket heater core from AutoZone. it doesn't fit. their math was way off.

If you need one, I'm selling the whole thing.....$25 plus shipping.
Came out of my 92 hatch being stripped for parts. I sold the dash and needed everything out of the way to remove the wiring harness.
