yes they are considered sport cars(Insurance said), 2door cars will always be more than 4doors(sedans/familycars).

Well, if you are considering that sports cars can only be coupes, you're kinda wrong...
A hatchback will fit most definitions of the term coupe. I looked it up once, after a cop wrote that my eg6 was a 'Coupe' on a ticket. I was going to use that to protest (eg claim cop was drunk, couldnt even tell my car was a hatchy etc - hey, come on... it was 143km/h in a 50k zone, i had to try something...)
Anyway...
Main Entry: cou·pé
Variant(s): or coupe /kü-'pA, 2 often 'küp/
Function: noun
Etymology: French coupé, from past participle of couper to cut, strike
Date: 1834
1 : a four-wheeled closed horse-drawn carriage for two persons inside with an outside seat for the driver in front
2 usually coupe : a 2-door automobile often seating only two persons; also : one with a tight-spaced rear seat -- compare SEDAN
Obviously its not the four-wheeled closed horse drawn thingy. But a hatch does have a tight spaced rear seat, and more often then not, is used to seat only two people (unless you carpool) Thus it could be considered a coupe, thus would fit the stereotype of a sports car. Meh... what am I talking about.... my car is stripped 24/7 anyway...

Hatchbacks are considered 3 doors by the insurance companies, so no it is much cheaper than a coupe

The lady at Taco Bell said I had a nice station wagon
My insurance doesn't list it as a sports car. But at 26, married, and no tickets or accidents, insurance is cheap anyway

i am pretty sure hatchbacks are not considered sports cars. they are in their own class, 3-doors/hatchbacks.

Re: Is a hatchback considered a sports car? (civictypenos)
It has nothing to do with how many doors the car has. Civics are considered economy cars, therefore they're insured at a disounted rate. I had quotes for a CRX Si when I was 16 and it's no more than any other civic, but way cheaper than say a prelude (sports car) or like a camry (full-size sedan).

My friend was insisting that my old TERCEL was a sports car because it had 2 doors.... what an idiot.... Jus because a car has 2 doors, it does not make it a sports car.

Lemme lay it out, in a non-insurance company related way:
A sports car has:
2 doors ONLY
2 seats ONLY
Rear wheel drive
Manual transmission (and no pansy-*** auto-sticks)
Preferably topless
And it must have a good balance between handling and power and such.
So...no current Honda is a sports car except for the S2000. I consider the NSX an exotic, so it's higher up than a sports car.
Mazda Miata, Lotus Elise, Ariel Atom, BMW Z3/M Roadster...those are sports car.

In order for something to be considered a sports car it has to have only 2 seats and 2 doors, the hatch can be the vairable, but if they make a version of the car with more than two seats, then it can not be a sports car, a sports coupe yes though and that can be about as expensive. There is usually a big break for back seats though when it comes to insurance.
