But is there a way to run VTEC without changing the ECU?
Maybe use some separate VTEC controller? Or just run a button that will activate VTEC solenoid when you press it?
Sorry if my questions sound dumb, im a noob (look at my avatar)

You can activate VTEC without a VTEC ECU (or chipping your ECU) by using a VTEC controller or an RPM activated switch. I wouldn't suggest either method though. You can chip your ECU for $30 and have somebody burn and mail you a chip for $10.

A y8 head will work. I don't know if the HX heads will, but I don't think it would be worth it (not that a min-me is in the first place).

The p06 seemed to make the car run better, but slower. Obviously without using the more aggressive cam lobes, the car is useless after you exceed a certain engine speed.
I have a slightly rough idle with the p28 which I was never able to fix. I tried adjusting the cam and ignition timing, but nothing seemed to eliminate the problem. This is probably why my emission numbers were so shitty.

I would rather save the original ECU for passing smogs and drive with some VTEC controller.
But then those emission numbers posted above seem pretty high. Could that kill my cat in a couple years? I guess I would also need to get a different cat or a pipe to replace it. I just saw some cheap "high-flow" cats on ebay for $40 another day...

I'd rather keep my ECU and get a VTEC ECU, or chip my ECU and have one chip make it act like a p06 and another to make it act like a p28. Either route will be a lot cheaper than getting a shitty VTEC controller.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it could kill your cat eventually. All that unburnt fuel could not be good for it. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the emissions results to be so much higher with the p28.
By the way, those eBay "high flow cats" are just test pipes.
