Hard to get into gear, happens occasionally.. bad clutch master cylinder?

setup: '00 B16 tranny, 95 jdm b18c Both have low mileage on them.. Tranny is 100% smooth.

It's starting to become a PITA.. Sometimes my car doesn't want to go in gear and i haft to slowly raise the revs to slide it into gear.. Including reverese, but sometimes the tranny will be perfectly normal and shift smooth as butter.

always when the car is off it slides in and out of gear find and there are no problems..

I opened the clutch fluid resovoir, around a week ago and it was a little low.. So i topped it off and i checked it tonight and it's all still there..

Anyone have any suggestions or comments on how maybe i can test the clutch master cylinder?

thanks in advance https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

lol, no man it's nothing like that.. I had several problems with my hatch. I expect stuff with a 10+ year old car.

The car runs WAYYY stronger than my hatch does and ever would of.. Fuck d-series.

to the tizzl1!!

um i thin shit justd oes that. I have a hard time getting mine in first or reverese sometimes too. I just usually release clutch, put it in again OR if it wont' go into first, go into 2nd or 3rd then 1st generally helps. As far was why it does it i don't know, but i think it's common https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

just make sure the slave cylinder is ok ....or make sure no bubbles in the hydraulic line https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Mine does that too, on BOTH my Hondas. Sometimes it's hard to get into 1st, but ususally reverse. Or, it'll grind when I try to put it in to reverse, I think it's just a Honda thing.

Usually, when it won't go into reverse, I'll throw it into 1st, first and then it goes in pretty easy.

Yeah, now it will grind my reverse almost all the time.. My car didn't do this when i first got it..

I'll check inside under the dash and check for leaks, but on average how much is a clutch master cylinder?? Should i pick one up from honda or go ahead and grab me an autozone one?

does sound like the master cylinder, when you do it make sure you get all the air out.

freakasis 07-24-2005 08:12 AM

jimmy: you problem does sound like a clutch issue though. wheather its master, slave, or air in the line i cant tell you without feeling it myself. start with the cheapest soloution and work up in price until you find it.
1. bleed the shit out of the line
2. slave cylinder
3. master cylinder

i am pretty sure that it is one of those.

i think this is the beginning of the syncros goind bad. it will slowly get worse until you cant shift anymore. depends on har hard you beat on it. it can happen to any car that gets beaten on. it so happens that we all beat the shit out of our hondas, so all of our trannies are a little screwed, including mine.

https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif Always go first and then reverse to stop the shafts and you won't grind.

Jimmy 07-24-2005 09:23 PM

checked inside of the car today, there is fluid leaking from the clutch master cylinder..

thanks guys

how much did you end up paying for the MC? i replaced the slave since it was cheaper but problem still persists. how long did it take for the install.

$88.00, for the MC.
Install time = 30 minutes with two people.
