Default Half a VTEC?!?!?

I was in town last night and this kid with a 97 ex (d16y8) said he has half a vtec. I was like WTF!?!? I asked if it was a different head, but with a vtec solenoid and ecu. His ecu is the same as mine so it's an ex ecu with vtec programmed in it. I have no idea. Anybody have ANY idea what this kid meant? Thanks. This had me stumped.

how can anyone have "half a vtec". Your engine is either a vtec engine or its not... maybe since its a d series he assumed vtec is a b series with dohc... and seeing he is sohc maybe he thought that was half a vtec?

A y8 is a vtec engine, so I would say its a vtec.
But, he could have had a vtec top end put on an ls bottom end, I guess that would give you half of a vtec.

LOL! Never thought of that. I don't think so though. I think he's lost. Like I said. I think if anything it would be a d16y7 head, but then you gotta ask yourself...WHY? Oh well, just wanted to see if I was stupid or something. Thanks guys.

I have no idea. I think he was confused himself. He confused me that's for sure. Just let this thread die though. I really didn't mean for this kid to get picked on because what he thought or said. I just had to make sure I wasn't the idiot this time. Thanks.

the d16y8 only has vtec on the intake and not on the exhaust.therefore, not having vtec on the exhaust is like a half vtec.

To post ***** maybe?........

I would bet money that he is saying 'half a VTEC' because he has a SOHC and only the intake lobs change on a SOHC VTEC engine. Or he's just a dumb ***........

The SOHC has 3 intake lobes and 2 exhaust lobes. He is right.
