You can put a D series on the H, but Its not readily available I do not think. ( F2d kits?)
Otherwise yes you need an H series transmission.
They are geared weird, so at 70 your at about 3400rpm
I have one.
Gotta cut out your transmission bracket and bolt a new one in, comes with a kit from hasport or innovative whoever you choose

--- old skool kits make you cut... newer ones or better brand kits no longer make you have to cut. I am using avid mounts and they just give an adapter plate for trans side mount. Quite easy and clean looking.

Re: H22a Swap for a 1995 civic
yeah any h2d or h2b kit is going to be $$$... Transmissions aren't to hard to come by... I bought a h22 trans for 50$... never used it and just flipped it the other day for 250$. It was a M2A4 trans too, the better geared ones. I use a P2T4 trans in my car and its the closest geared trans h/f series has to offer besides for the TWT4 trans. Let me tell you this... I went from a P2A8 trans to the P2T4 trans... and it was an entirely new car after the swap. Went from being able to doing 80mph @ 2.2kish rpms to 80 @ like 4.5kish rpms.

You don't want to keep a D series tranny anyways. Just use the H tranny. You'll have a stronger tranny, possibly LSD, bigger axles, and much shorter gears!
