H22a shifter assembly in a an Ec hatch,??
Ok, My hatch is in the process of an h22 swap.. But I need a lil help with the shifter assembly mechanicism.. I have a good size hole drilled under the audio console for the cables can run.. Ok`.. I have them hook on the assembly inside the car but the assembly is not bolted down yet. When i move the shifter into gears, it goes into all of them accept REVERSE. When I take the driver side cable off the assembly, it goes into all gears and reverse. Its confusing and difficult to explain, but what might it be? The cables or?? Anyone .........?

Do you have the cables on the correct parts of the shifter? Could you have put them on backwards?

What mount kit are you using? I'm using hcp and you have to trim a lot of the passenger side trans mount off to clear the shifter mechanism. Have someone look at that mount and the cable when you shift it.

I have a 94 del sol, but the engine bay is the same. Did you remove the passenger side trans bracket from the frame rail? According to hasport.com, you have to completely remove it so it will not interfere with the shifter mechanism.

Will the shifter/cable NOT go into reverse at all? Or can you move the shifter into the reverse position and it doesn't hold or grab? There's a difference if it'll go in and won't get into gear, or if it won't even go in period. If it shifter won't go into the reverse position, then it's the cables and the shifter assembly box ontop of the tranny and you want to check those. If the shifter goes into the position and doesn't grab into gear, then it may be your shift fork and/or bearings.

The only other thing I can think of is to check and make sure that you have trimmed enough out of the center console floor, so that the shifter is not binding under the plate. Hope it works out for you

Then if that's the case, your shift forks & bearings are fine (inside of the tranny). How did you route your shifter cables? Make sure you put them OVER the top of the rear crossmember or they won't reach. Also make sure the path of the cables is clear and there's some slack on them and that they're not chaefing on something. It sounds like it works fine, when you unhook one of the cables, so it sounds like it's getting caught up from the tranny to the shifter. Just retrace everything and have somebody move the shifter around while you follow the cables (from underneath the car) back to the tranny.

Re: (h22 civic)
So you think that might be it? But when you take of the left cable on the assembly, it goes in either way.. What are those things on the tranny that the cables connect to.. Like which does what, and ....? Anyone?
