h22 vs gsr??
hey guys real quick question, i have a gsr in my ej1 right now. im looking to sell this and buy a ej8 with a jdm h22. the guy told me on occasion it has a boggin idle, needs a new cam seal due to a slight leak ( so did my gsr) but he told me it ran a 14.8.. im pretty sure i could run that with my gsr. any reason why its slow?
would you guys take a h22 over gsr?
oh and he said untuned, but from what i know its a stock jdm h22.

If I was buying a car with either swap, i'd get the gsr. The H-series ran slow likely due to it's tranny/axles and a shitty driver/tune.
An H done right can put you into the 12's with little modification.
If you're buying a car with the swap in it, buy one that runs well.

the h22 trans is fine, and is definately an easy car to dip into 12's/13's all motor with very little mods..
but i myself dont think the h22 motor is as reliable as the b18, and the market for the b18 is so much bigger

I'm not sure I'd go all trading cars 'n such, but if somebody offered me in one hand a GSR, and in the other an H22, I'd take the H22.
Why? I'm a torque head, to me a motor is more than just racing, but the torque matters for daily driving - the more torque makes it nicer to daily drive, and hp doesn't win races, torque does.
Torque ftw.
GSR = 180hp/127lb/ft tq.
H22 = 200hp/161lb/ft tq.
Now the hp isn't really the part that matters, it's the part that the GSR only has a couple more lb/ft tq. than the LS. See torque has a direct correlation with displacement, so 2.2 vs 1.8 = that big torque difference.
Torque wins races, torque also makes daily driving more pleasurable.
He probably got a bad start or something .
H22's better for dragging because A) It's got an asston more torque, and B) It's heavier, so it's more weight over that front axle lowering your wheel spin. Though that's just straight line racing, in autoX it suffers.
I'd take the H22 over the GSR any day.

very true. But make sure the H22 would be a fairly easy/somewhat cheap fix. I wouldn't want to trade/buy something that has a ton of problems with it from the start.

yea i agree the h22 would be fun because the massive amount of torque it has (for a honda) but you really can't beat the reliability of the gsr, plus parts availible for it are outragous

Not true......I've seen the #'s and an H22 complete motor and trans weighs like 38lbs more than a complete B16. That aint ****.

Word, it's proven that the H weighs less than 30 lbs than a regular b swap.
Relocate your battery and problem solved.
If you do h2b, subtract about 8lbs.

i would recommend you test drive a GSR and h22. see which one feels better to you. heres an idea, get a gsr and see how you like it. and if you get tired of it, just buy the h2b kit plus the h22 motor and your good to go.

Re: (rpared01)
I'd go GSR.
I hear of a lot of axel problems with H22 swaps. I'd only go H22 if it was H2B swapped.
It's just sexier to me with a GSR. Come on, that motor series, B, was meant for Civics.

Re: (n.famous.1)
ok ok ok .. the battery is relocated to trunk, and so people get this straight. ive been daily drivin a gsr for a year and a half nowsee the thing is. the body on the h22 civic is better conditon then mine. its either, spend 3-4 g's in my ej1 which would hopefully cover, getting lil rust problem solved, paint car, and boost. or i could sell my car get 3500 out of it. buy his for 5 g's and leave it at that. just want a reliable dd but you know, nice and quick. imma test drive this soon.
