What type of fuel management system are you running? It does sound like your running rich. Do you have an a/f raito gauge to see if your running rich?

yeah, check your fuel system... black smoke = rich mix

first check compression to see if it is the rings. if compression is okay and if you're running rich you should be bogging somewhat. if all of that is good, check your turbo and see if your seals are leaking. you also might need a rebuild on your turbo. just trying to give suggestions.

if his turbo seals were going it would be white or blue smoke.

I really bet it's not the piston rings. I'm willing to wager that the combination of the wrong ECU for your setup and the pathetic Vortec FMU are the problem and that your car is simply running really rich. If it were your rings the smoke would be markedly blue and it would happen in all gears when you got on it.

well i had the obd1 gsr ecu and the check engine light comes up ... where would i jump to see why the check engine light is showing? i also had my rc injetors (440) injectors but then i took it all out and running my stock injectors ... about the fmu vortec isn't good? i have another one .... may be is should change that ... well i'm gonna work on my car later today and see my outcome hopefully everything is all good thannkz again ...

Run the codes for the ECU using the paperclip method....you should figure out what's wrong there I think. I hope you get it running well...sounds like fun.

440 Injectors and a FMU with I assume a 12:1 disk would be real rich. Even a 12:1 on stock injectors will run rich but should be ok. Take it somewhere with a wideband on their dyno and see what it's doing.

Are you still breaking the engine in? Things could still be "settling."

Yup... I know of 6 people with that same problem with a turbo H22 setup.

Best thing to get.... 2 words.... Hondata S200B

Great for tuning and playing with the injection pulse.

and you would most likely notice it upon start-up.
Black smoke = unburned fuel
Blue is oil
white is coolant.

How much boost are you runing?
