Default H22 question for you guys!

Hey guys, please don't flame me for asking this question, it is a genuine tech question that I have never seen answered before.

I was just wondering, that since my car came with an automatic, if I could buy an H22 with an automatic mated to it and use it in my car? Just wondering if it would use the existing cable that came in my 93 DX hatch? Do you think there would be any issues with shifting the transmission? I was just thinking of doing it that way since I can't find the conversion pieces to do a 5-speed swap. Unless someone can get me the pedal assembly and whatnot, minus the shifter, and shift rods.

There is no way in hell (without some SERIOUS money and time, and fabbing) that an H22A auto tranny will fit in the 1992-1995 Civic engine bay.

The auto trannies are always bigger, and the H22A ones are among the biggest.

You'd have to notch the passenger side unibody rail...

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I will be doing the H22 swap also. Would that make a difference? I was just thinking of buying that swap instead of a 5-speed swap and converting the car to manual(although I'd prefer it, I just can't find the parts).

even the manual tranny for a h22 has to be custom fitted. You'll have to hack off a piece of the passenger motor mount in order for the shifter to work properly.

I understand all about putting an H22 into a hatch with a 5 speed, I was just wondering if I could use the Auto tranny instead since as of right now my car is an Auto.

I need roughly the same info. I had the full H22A automatic drivetrain given to me from a Honda Specialist (www.evanshondaspecialist.com). I ended up with a 96 automatic coupe. As soon as I got the car I swapped an EX motor into the DX car, but now I want to go H22A. Reason I want to keep the auto, if anything happens and I can't drive I want to know anyone can drive for me and not f*ck my sh*t up. So far no companies have responded to emails I have wrote them about the compatibility issues, but when they do I will post what they say. As for now...CAN ANYONE HELP BOTH OF US OUT???????

I just want to make sure, they seem to fit fine in the Preludes without extra notching and that is one of the tighest fits around (H22 in a lude) trust me, I worked at Honda and the ludes were the hardest to work on.

why are u having a hard time finding 5 speed parts? i see em all the time and junkyards. especially for eg civics. and i have an h22 in my ek and its a really tight fit, theres no room whatsoever for an auto tranny unless u do some major fabrication. go with the manual conversion. everyone else on this board will tell u the same

Well if you can find the pedal assembly and all of the parts I need, then I will buy them through you.

What do you mean if anything happens and you can't drive? Are you getting your legs amputated? Your right hand chopped off or what?

A 5 speed will make things that much easier. At least it'll be a "Bolt in" process and proven...

OR else, sell the H22 swap and get an auto B series? At least that has a better chance of working! Did you get the H22 for free or what?

Well hey, I was just wondering, I guess it is out of the question, oh well! I like a 5-speed better I just can't find any of the swap parts. I have been checking the Classifieds, and civichatchback.com to no avail. Our junkyards out here suck too. If anybody has the parts, or can get them, IM or email me, thanks.

Okay you're getting smart too, so please drop the attitude.

My shop has done a B18B automatic swap into a 1997 Civic and even the auto B-Series tranny DID NOT FIT without notching the passenger side frame rail and rear X member.

IT IS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

Hey Tom it still works w/o notching it. Just that little top part of the tranny rubs on the frame rail. Just grind down the frame a little. We drop a b16a auto in a 92-95 coupe and we didnt have to fabricate too much. the B16a is still slow so we took it out and drop in a b20b auto and this is better out of these two, but id still rather a manual.

edit: this car is now an b20b auto w/boost.
