H.I.D. ballast location?

Re: H.I.D. ballast location?
I actually switched back to some nice halogens because I couldn't find a good spot to mount my HIDs and I got tired of the clutter in the bay.

I put mine on the back of that bumper reinforcement bar (or whatever it's called). You can drill and mount there if you have some mounting brackets. I'm only using zip ties for now because I have crappy ballasts and didn't want it to be a big hassle to replace them. When I do replace them, I will definitely keep the same location, but I'll just mount them better.
p.s. keep in mind the ballasts have to be waterproof

It works perfectly...I just ran the power wire alongside the car's harness and down just below the grill clips to get to the left ballast. You really can't tell I did anything at all if you don't take off the bumper. The harness I used was off of eBay btw.

They are talking about doing a REAL HID swap/install into your headlights.
(Please elaborate or correct me if I'm wrong, I don't wanna speak for others incorrectly)
Look it up on google and you'll see what I'm talking about. Looks nice and everything. Rewarding too.
However, you don't really have to do that. Granted, there are MANY a crappy HID kit from ebay, but there are some that work pretty freaking well (without blinding others).
Basically you just have to watch what kind you buy. I recently installed new HIDs on my friends 00 civic. He got one of the ebay kits that I approved of (parts are from and put together in the U.S., has the headlamp cover/reflector to help stop glare). They do glare or blind AT ALL and are bright (color is at like 6000k).
I wish I had pictures of where I mounted the ballast, but I'll just use the picture above to show the general area where I put them (in the red ciricle, hard to miss). The wiring went up and to the front and underneath the headlight. Works just fine, not near the wheel, and is not in the engine bay.

Re: H.I.D. ballast location?
HIDs really aren't worth it.
I have a set for $160, they're bright but don't help for visibility.
The only positive I get is to highbeam people that cut me off on the freeway....I don't do this often, its for people who cut me off and then flick me off or yell out their window when they just change into my lane.. seriously they're in the wrong and they just start bitching cuz I honk.... this is really starting to **** me off...
anyways..i agree once my HIDs die, I'm just going to replace them with halogens
1. No clutter
2. Don't have to worry about them overheating
3. Every once in a while one side wont turn on
retrofit is when you have projector lens installed in your headlight housing from another vehicle that was designed for hid bulbs.
Em1 coupe - if you have the stock headlight housing w/o modification then it aint retrofit

Yea HID aren't really worth it unless you do a retrofit, but they're still not worth it then to me really.
I prefer just some good halogen bulbs. I bought some Nokya 5000k Cosmic White bulbs for $23.50 shipped and they have great visibility, give off a pure white light, are of good durability/quality, and inexpensive compared to the way-overpriced Silverstar Ultras.

Re: H.I.D. ballast location?
what i actually like about my kit is that it comes with the low bwam switch as the hid and the high beam as the regular light, so if im driving behing=d someone i dont have to blind them

Re: H.I.D. ballast location?
Are you saying if you switch to the high beams it won't blind them? That's not true.

Re: H.I.D. ballast location?
I get what you are typing, you are just flat out wrong though.
Just because you are too cheap to buy a bixenon HID kit doesn't mean you get to drive around with your high beams on all the time. The reason your high beams on your HID kit are halogen isn't because they don't blind anyone, it's because they are CHEAPER.
Do you not know what high beams are for or how they work? They raise the beam and thus give you better visibility by lighting up more in front of you. They are for using when there's no oncoming traffic and you need more visibility. When you turn your high beams on and have oncoming traffic, the raised beam is now glaring into peoples' eyes.
