Gude Engine Kit vs. B16 vs. Screw it
Instead of purchasing a B16A2 I was thinking about buying a Gude engine kit for my SOHC. But before I finalize anything, I wanted some opinions. I have a 95 EX that I bought for $500 in great condition from a family member. It's got 160K and the engine idles high. I was first going to buy a swap package and just, you know, SWAP IT with the B16. But, after further thought, came to the conclusion that I don't exactly feel like going into debt to buy this engine. I don't even know what insurance on something like that is. It would be pretty kick *** to have the B16, because it would be a nice runner. Then, after thinking twice about spending 3K on an engine swap package, I was looking at Gude engine kits for SOHC engines. Basically, it's an entire package of ported materials. http://www.gude.com/
And, of course, I just thought, why even do this? Should I even go through the trouble? What would be the pros and cons? Is it easy to sell a B16 swapped Civic with 160K+ on the chassis? Would I have more problems after this? Is it worth the effort?
Since I don't want to fork out for the experience, I'm just going to ask for some knowledgeable opinions on the matter. Point my *** in the right direction.....Thanks guys. Any and all help is appriceated

gude = in my opinion. there was a big to do about it on 7thgen.com and the package did nothing. some of the heads were warped. ive never heard of any good come out of gude.

SAme as above. when I had my 2k1 i read a lot about it. It is not worth it for the money and the gains are not that big. Besides You need to send them your head etc.. Go for a swap!!

I would go for the swap if you have some pretty good knowledge on cars and feel you could do it. I'm 18 and just put a B16 in my eg, the swap was my first, and a pain in the *** it was, but after it was all done I knew a lot more about my car and I love the power. Oh yeah and a swap will not effect your insurance.
If you go with the B16 make sure and run 91 octane or better in case you didnt know. Good Luck

If you're thinking about the Gude package or whatever... just turbo that SOHC beast. Look around the classifides on here... There was a dude selling a whole B16A2 swap outta his crashed Si for 1,500 with paperwork and EVERYTHING needed to do it. Just look around before you make any final decisions. And remember a turbo SOHC is definately an option as well and can be pretty reliable if you do it right.
