Gude Cams on SOHC?
It advertises 14hp with no tuning. Is it that possible? Anyone run the GUDE SOHC cam in their D16?
Or what other cams would you recommend for a D16? It's from a 98 EX, so that would be a D16Y8 right? It was either cams or nitrous. The bolt-ons didn't really give a notice in power...it sure got louder though?

Don't waste your money on CAMS for a SOHC.....get all the other goodies first then if you feel like there is no other option go with the cams.

For 96-00:
EX: D16Y8
HX: D16Y5
DX: D16Y7
It is possible that I am wrong about the HX and DX, my memory is hazy today. It just means which specific D16 engine it is...

Re: Gude Cams on SOHC? (Prelude_RCR)
I've got a gude cam in my D15B2 and I love it-it's been in there for over 100,000 miles with no problems. Sport compact car did an article gude cam on a D16Z6 motor- and yes- it gained @ 14 HP- They also showed the AEM CAI gaining 14 HP. I would rec. a new billet over regrind if given a choice - gude may be going billet soon if not already. Performance gains also depend on how mickey mouse your muffler is and how hot the air your "performance" filter on a stick is sucking in. Cams are a great place to get power- having GOOD mods (intake and exhaust) just makes the HP gains even larger. Don't get a race cam for a street car like most idiots- no torque. My 2522 cam is street- it pulls hard on the freeway. Accelerating from 70-80 requires very little throttle. It's funny that my 1.5 can beat 1.6 Si's old and new- I wonder if that has anything to do with my "shitty regrind" cam?

fixhondas... can I clap now or later.. that's too funny. I also have the 2522, already sitting in a ported head on my workbench. As soon as my gaskets and service manual get in... the head, cam, ported intake manifold, ported t/b, and ecu will go in. I'll post those dyno and track numbers to prove all the disbelievers.

fixhondas,
Have you ever dyno your setup? I'm curious about how much you gained. And also, have you ran the 1/4mile yet?

no and no- I would like to get some dyno action going but only if it is free at this point- I don't have the setup I want to go tune it - yet. Haven't done the 1/4 mile either- I would probably suck at it (driving)- my stock clutch is on its last leg anyhow- I just did big brakes and urethane bushings- I want to get some light wheels and I have a D16Y8 head to put on this winter- this will raise compression to a little over 11.5 to 1. I figure I'll rebuild the bottom end of it when I do the head and throw a new clutch in soon. Long live the DX.
People- camshafts are what makes an engine breathe- why would you not expect power gains with a different cam? SOHC motors benefit from mods just as well as a DOHC motor does- A benefit of DOHC is you can adjust exhaust and intake cam timing independently and the valvetrain can usually withstand higher RPM's. Woopty doo! A regrind cam isn't going to hurt your valvetrain- you will have to turn your adjusting screws in a little farther for a valve adjustment and the base circle of the cam is smaller which doesn't aid in profile design. So what. Why buy a cam when you can get a Neuspeed sticker?
