gsr vtec wiring problem in eg
ok i posted in tech.. but havent got much of a response.. so im posting here cauze a lot of traffic goes through here.. hopefully i can get some better feedback
ok.. had my swap done for quite some time now... still NO VTEC... we did the wiring ourselves, using my old DX harness and simply added the vtec wires ourselves... but here is the deal..
i turn on my car no check engine light.. when i drive it and wanna hit vtec i get a check engine light, check the code (21) vtec solenoid....so im like ok if i take it to a shop now and see if they can run some diagnostic tests.. the 1st thing they are gonna tell me is "you need a new wiring harness" or "get the proper wiring harness"
but this is what REALLY gets me...
Have swapped ECU's from a car that i KNOW vtec works on.. nothing
Have checked the lil screen to see if its dirty.. it wasnt
no dents in oil pan
oil filter is brand new
oil level is FINE
so im like... hmm maybe it has somthing to do with the 1 vtec solonoid wire going from the ECU to the solenoid.. so i run another one, using the SAME wire that is the SAME guage... wire it up... turn on my car... check engine light RIGHT AWAY...
DOES MY ECU HAVE A THING FOR THIS 1 WIRE? I DONT GET IT?
ANY SUGGESTIONS? **** ill try anything...
flame me? **** i dont care
tech post can be found here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=452856
thanks

Re: gsr vtec wiring problem in eg (shorty)
I was just wondering how many wires you have run so far? You will need to run two, one from the solenoid and one from the oil pressure sensor, A4 and D6. Make sure that if you don't use connectors on the wires that are going into the ecu harness that you use enough wire so that it will make contact. Make sure that all you connections are correct. Oh and make sure that you don't have the vtec wires that go into the ecu harness backwards. This happened to me and no one could figure it out for like two weeks. After the wires were correct it still wasn't kicking in, then about a week later I went to pass an 18 wheeler and kicked it down into third and vtec came on strong. I hope this helps, if you need anymore help just post here and I or someone else will be able to help. Good luck and God bless!

sounds like maybe you only hooked up 1 wire...
make sure you hook up 2 wires...
vtec solenoid and oil pressure..

do you have a JDM motor?
I thought that the JDM DOHC VTEC vtec solenoids were different?

i think i might know exactly what your problem is. you either mixed up the pin on the ecu. or you mixed up the ground side and sensor side on the pressure sensor.
tried going over the wire pins again.
i forgot the locations but you probably just mixed up the wire. trie switching it around..

pressure... blue = pwr black = ground correct?
other then that.. the pin positions are correct, i believe if they werent i would get a check engine light right away.

Re: gsr vtec wiring problem in eg (shorty)
have you tried to reset the ecu??? just pull the 7.5 amp fuse in your engine bay for like 10 secs and plug it back in....
also, when you try for vtec you are allowing your car to warm up right.......
vtec in a gsr ecu is supposed to occur at about 4500 rpms....and the secondaries come on at about 5700.... not sure whats your prob...
but i would check the wiring..to the ecu...
hope i helped...
oh do a compression test to see if the motor is good...if the numbers are low, that might be the problem..

Re: gsr vtec wiring problem in eg (degooser)
from what your describing, you need the hook up the knock sensor.......pm me and i can send you a diagram of which pin to hook it up on your ECU....
as far as JDM gsr motors, they use oil pressure sensor in the back of the block to activate vtec.... as far as making it work without the the vtec silenoid i dont know about that one....
BTW you should use a gsr engine harness.... saves alot of headache from wiring...but what ever works for you

as for that knock sensor.. dont know how much that has to do with it.. i believe i have all sensors wired and attached...
