Re: gsr swap help!!!
so the temp gauge on the dash bein broke wont let vtec work? then that dont make much sense because the d16 vtec worked.

Re: gsr swap help!!!
There are a few criteria that must be met before the engine's vtec will commense, these criteria are setup as a fail safe mechanism so the operator wont damage the engine with excessive revs.
If the coolant temp gauge isnt working than it's a safe bet that it might be the culprit, grab a haynes manual and troubleshoot.
Checking temp sensors isnt that hard but it's not the easiest thing either, what you are doing is checking the resistance of the sensor across the temperature range to see if it correlates with the temp change ( I forget how honda's are setup).

Re: gsr swap help!!!
hmmmmm........ what year and model civic may i ask? and if it's not a ex since si start in 99, then it wont work. UNLESS you have hooked up the vtech wires from your solenoid to you ecu wire. but if you have done that, then i'm not sure why it wouldn't kick in unless you don't have a vtech ecu. i know my buddy had a hard time with a jdm gsr ecu so he just used a usdm gsr ecu. try that if you hooked up the vtech wire already. and it doesn't matter if the temp gauge is broken, he probably meant that your car has to be at operating temp for vtech to even kick in.

Re: gsr swap help!!!
ok 96 civic ex. 00 jdm gsr. when swap first went in the jdm ecu ran perfect WITH vtec but threw codes. so to pass emissions i got a 98 usdm ecu for the gsr. cel light still on. ok so then checked the codes. temp sensor popped up. so my buddy checked it out. and the temp sensor was ran into something else.he wired it in right and now my vtec wont work. does that help at all? i know this sounds weird, but thats why im lost
