GSR/S80 LH trans output seal replacement?

GSR/S80 LH trans output seal replacement?
Does anybody know or has tried to replace the lefthand side axle seal, by just unbolting the intermediate shaft and sliding it? Is there enough play in the CV joint to let the intermediate shaft slide out of the trans? Or does the entire axle/intermediate shaft need to be removed to replace seal?
A little history, I have had this engine/trans out 3 times in the last 5 days, got a replacement seal from napa, but the I.D. of the seal is 1.57 vs. 1.33, so needless to say, they gave me the wrong seal and it spit trans fluid all over the damn place when I took it out for a drive. It's now snowing/raining here and I want to get this seal replaced with as little time laying in the water as possible.
Thanks for listening to my rambling.
Tim

IIRC the intermediate shaft has to come out. Buy the axle seal for the intermediate shaft you are running. If you are running a '90 - '93 'teg intermediate shaft get the matching axle seal, if its a '94 - '01 'teg/'94 - '97 Del Sol Vtec or '99 - '00 Civic Si then again, get the matching seal, using the wrong seal will result in a pretty major leak.
