GSR.....bad VSS or something else?
Ok recently I got a gsr engine.etc.... I found out the vss was bad ( had a broken pin). So I got my hands on one from a JDM tranny b16. I put it on reset the ecu and bam **** still came back on. Same code 17. So my question is now what could be wrong? Is there anything else I can look for now that the VSS itself is out of the way? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Broken wire, backed out pin, poor pin tension. See if the VSS has 12v, 5v, and a good ground. If its missing any one of those, it'll trip the CEL immediately.

Well the plug looks normal. So I really wouldn't know if its a broken wire. All I know is that my speedometer don't work for nothing. And how do I go about checking the 12v,5v, and ground. Sorry im a noob to B series. This is my first B series engine.

Ok can anyone confirm some things for me please..
#1 my ecu reads 37820-P72-A02-970-105029. Is this the correct ecu for a OBD2a engine. Car is 96 so I guess its obd2a.
#2 I could have swore that my 97 ej8 had 3 plugs in back of the cluster.(memory could be wrong) This Si cluster only has 2 plugs. And so does the harness itself. WTF?
Please help me clarify this. Thanx in advance HT

Note: Also tested the VSS plug and I got the following readings. On one wire(middle I believe) I got 4.7v and on the other I got 11.7-11.8v. When tested I used the ground of the plug also so im guessing ground is good also.

That looks about normal. Sounds like you may have a beef with compatibility of harnesses between the cars or a broken/missing wire that feeds the ECU the signal from the VSS.

Now by any chance would you know the color of the wire for the VSS? Could it be the ecu? Cuz my speedometer still don't work and I wonder why?
