Default Grinds into third

My car (1995 Honda del Sol VTEC(b16)). Grinds into third if i shift above 5,000rpm. It happens ONLY at downshifting or upshifting above 5,000. Any ideas?

Im going to try syncromesh and maybe change out the fluid. The funny thing is, this only started AFTER i reinstalled the linkage, could there be a problem there?

If the linkage is left in alone for quite some time (factory) or just driven a lot in a certain spot, it wears the gears a certain way.

Once the angle or force is changed ever-so-slightly, the variables that were once true are now different.

Check your shifter bushing to ensure its not totally wore out and everything is at it should. If all that checks out, replace your tranny fluid and that will give you a band aid for your current issues.

Welcome to the B-series tranny 3rd gear grind club.

Your synchros have worn over time. If left alone it will eventually start eating at your dog teeth and then totally screw up 3rd gear.
Then you will have to buy the 3rd/4th gear set to replace third gear.

My advice would be to open her up and replace the synchro. GM syncromesh is like closing your eyes and ears while your sister is getting raped in front of you.

whats wrong with syncromesh?

Just fill the whole thing up with syncromesh. I had the same problem so I started using amoil manual syncromesh fluid.

grinds in 3 is normal due to normal wear and tear.
it happened to me once too.i ended up replacing the whole newer tranny.
cheaper that way.i got a newer tranny for under 100 bucks.
but i was talking about on a d series tranny..
on your b series.it will cost a lot more to buy
and now it shifts fine and pulls hard
