Grinding noise when accelerating?
Hey everybody,
I've been noticing a grinding noise when I drive my car. I only hear it for a few seconds when I'm at about 20 mph in first gear and a similar RPM in 2nd gear. Only really noticable in 1st. I was told it was the heat shield, but I have a new header and no heat shield, as well as a new exhaust and its not that. I started today and the car stalled a little when I was turning the car going up an incline and kinda jumped and I heard it then too in sync with the RPMs. It kinda sound like its somewhere in my axles or something? I dunno, any suggestions? Thanks alot.
James

Grinding sound?
I take it from the way it sounds, the "noise" seems to be in sync with RPM as you drive?
If so, I'd take a look at the driveaxles, may be loose. Next would be to check out the condition of your CV boots (driveaxle boots), see if they are in good condition. Moving from there, things like bearings, brakes, and tire condition could be suspected...
Take a visual look and see what's going on, or have a mechanic take a look and see if anything is out of place. Good luck.

Re: Grinding noise when accelerating? (OptionMan)
Thanks alot. Thats what I was thinking, too. I'll check it out and post back up. Its a scraping metal to metal noise, I think it would be something like that. If I dont figure it out then I guess when I swap trannys (Im getting an EX tranny) I'll get to check everything more closely.
