Default Grinding noise....help =/

There is this grinding noise coming from the middle of engine right under the IM so it seems. This grinding noise only happens when im at 4000RPM in each gear. Can anyone help me fix this?

just a guess but it might be a heat shield on your exhaust rattling. that's what mine does at about 3000.

I don't know, but it sounds real nasty. Its sounds more like that machine you use when you sharpen your knives if they are dull. You know what im talking about?

Maybe it's your alternator?

Can you further explain why it would be the alternator?

yeah i know.. mine makes the same nasty kinda "ARRARRRRAAARRRAARRAR" noise at 3000. i bet you 20 bucks it's a loose heatshield or something else loose on your exhaust.

odd, why only at 4K though? Could it be something from the motor?

-I don't think its from the exhaust headshield, cause it happened on my brother's car too.

at 4k your engine's sound is probably just oscillating at the only possible level which causes a resonance with whatever it is making the ARRRRARARRARARAR noise.

i wouldn't take my word for it... i'm kind of an eternal noob. id have a look under your car with someone holding the tach at 4. you should be able to hear it pretty well under the car.

also did this just start recently... like when it started to get cold? cause my car just started to make this kind of noise a few weeks ago with the advent of the cold - only thing is mine is at 3k not 4.

If its been that long you've prolly already messed up whats gonna be messed up, my friends Teg had a noise from his heat sheild only at like 4K and up, try tightening it down or something its worth a shot.
