I have a '97 EX that does something similar except it doesn't happen when I'm not moving, only when I'm turning very slowly like in parking lots or something. In regular driving, it never happens. I thought it was my CV joints/boots, but they were fine when I checked them. I haven't really done any further investigating, but my car drives normally otherwise. I'm fairly sure mine has something to do with the axles, though, and not the P/S. But yeah, the noise is similar to yours where it's like a creaking or grinding noise.

Well, just an update on my problem. It turns out the bolts for the front suspension were loose, causing the control arms and everything to clank around. So I had to tighten everything down, which has solved the problem. I'm lucky that they didn't back out of the threads while driving on the freeway! Combine that with 75 mph, and. . . . So if you're still having this problem on your car, here's another avenue you might travel down in search of alleviating the noise. Good luck.
