grinding from 1st to 2nd please help!!
my car:
94' honda del sol w/ a recently swapped b16a and LSD tranny; as far as the tranny goes its stock
the problem:
i am grinding from 1st to 2nd AND from 4th to 5th. i shift at approx 4k, still grinds. i make sure i shift properly, foot to the floor and place it in gear and shift slow.
i just changed out the tranny fluid and it has been about 300 miles since i changed it to GM full syn MTF, still grinding.
the clutch was changed at the same time as the swap, which was done just recently; about 600 miles ago.
when i first got my car back after the swap i made sure to break in the clutch for about 200 miles. after the break-in was fine for the first hundred miles or so and then it started to grind...
any answers comments would be greatly appreciated, can you please post? THANKS!

This is a big issue with honda's, your syncro rings are worn out. They are like litle clutches for each gear. They are made from brass and wear out fast from hard shifting. For a full syncro ring and bearing kit plus a rebuild your probly looking at around 1k for quality work
The thin finegeared ring is what the teath have worn off causing the grinding.
hope this helps

Re: (vtecftw)
Although its not easy to screw up, an improper clutch install (or bad clutch) in a hydro tranny can easily do this. If the clutch never fully disengages, it will always be spinning the mainshaft, which will wear your synchros quickly, which then starts wearing your dogteeth on the gear itself. You also have to remember that JDM B16's that were already in a USDM car have a 1 in 2 chance of being a beginner car for a punk 16yr old who can't shift and never maintained. As for FOB JDM B16's, you have to remember that being a born in Japan doesn't make the driver any better at shifting or maintaining the transmission.

I would say its the syncros. I would agree that it could be a clutch not disengaging, but i believe that would be affecting all shifts not just first to second and fourth to fifth.

Re: grinding from 1st to 2nd (blk2mid2sol)
try a cheaper alternative first before you overhaul your tranny.
Redo your tranny fluid with either
Honda MTF
or GM Synchromesh
GM synchromesh has been said to work miracles on transmissions. I've had transmissions with minor grinds and Honda MTF fixed it after 300-600 miles.
I suspect that the thin synthetic MTF that you're using now isn't helping.

gm synchromesh friction modified (make sure you get the friction modified fluid) can help cover up the problem, but your synchros aren't going to magically rebuild themselves. go to the gm dealership closest to you and get some. it will make some difference.

make sure it's not bent, twisted, binding etc. if you hit a really big rock i'd bet it's possible you could have bent your shift linkage, causing you to have a hard time getting it into certain gears.
have you tried the different trans fluid yet?

dont waste any more money on fluid. it wont fix it or help it any. GM makes trash cars , they certainly dont make magic fluid. have you ever had a car apart? its really not that bad of a fix if you have tools and a helms. your better off buying another tranny rather than paying someone to rebuild that one.

You're an idiot. Have you used syncromesh? I've used it in numerous transmissions when a customer would come into my shop complaining of mid gear shift grinds, and they have come back to thank me. I tell them it isn't going to replace missing metal on the syncros, but it will stop the grinding for quite a while. So, before you start spouting off your infinite knowledge do some ******* research. Good day sir, good day.
