Grille 'cover' plate function?
I have been wondering about the function of the cover plate on some grilles, especially on 99-00 Civic models, of which only some models seem to have it.
So, what is its function and why only some models? Of course it's meant to block some air flow, but why thère and only some models?
Informed opinions only please. Don't like the question, please do not react.

Re: Grille 'cover' plate function?
Right, didn't think of that, had this weird idea of it having some shielding function to keep some specific engine part out of direct air stream
The actual grille and cover on the photos i got from a local friend who imported them, I highly suspect from the US or Canada. Belgium actually has a moderate climate: never too cold or to warm, you'd have to go to the Scandinavian resp. Mediteranian countries for those.
EDM such covers were used on pre-facelifts but dropped on facelifts. JDM neither had. USDM I'm not sure on pre-facelifts - think not, but as stated at least on some facelifts it was. This specific facelift cover, the one in the pics, is as you can see Canadian made. The part nr. doesn't show up in EPCs contrary to the other cover plates. It's also 'stitched' instead of 'clipped'. Make's me quite sure it's a North American part only.
My interest is the aerodynamic function, like the covers put on non-ac model bumper's grilles. Don't know if USDM there ever were non-airco models so you may not know these
