grill insert swap possible between 00 EX/Si?
i just purchased a 00 Si grill from a friend of mine, and i was wondering if it's possible to just swap the mesh insert/top piece from the Si with the outer trim from an EX. i probably should have asked this question before i dropped off the grill at the body shop, but whatever. im just curious really.

No, you can not. the outer trim (#2 in the exploded view) is different from the ex and si. the si trim is deeper. if you put an ex trim on the si mesh, you will see the screws on the bottom edge.
have the body shop paint the si trim to match your car.
