got a problem with 1996 civic ex. someone help me
okay my girlfriends ex civic is just sputtering bad, plugs wires ar new. but it almost like backfires either through the intake or out the exhaust. or sometimes it sounds like both no check engine code, what does this sound like? thanks for the help.

Wrong forum but I will try to help you out. It sounds to me like a timing problem. Check both ignition and cam timing. Also make sure the plug wires are hooked up correctly since not having the proper firing order can make the car run bad.

yeah how many miles are on the car? definately sounds like a timing issue i had this problem MILDLY on my 96 ex but i had an engine flush and new timing belt etc put on and now it runs flawless (136k miles)

yeah, thats what i thought. it has 112k so im gonna get my meter and check the distributer. im gonna check the timing to. thanks guys

Check your intake, check the IACV.
It probably has something to do with the intake process, because that's exactly what was happening with my car.

the IAVC will just make it idle real weird up and down... and that means most likely an air leak...hope you figure it out... lmk
