In a 5th gen Civic, the GSR cluster cuts off on the sides and looks ugly. On 6th Gen EK Civics, the GSR cluster actually fits perfectly in there. Wiring is needed for both models.

As far as wiring there is a difference. I wired up a 6th gen cluster into my 5th gen.
The plugs are really the only thing that were different. I wish I recorded all the wires for future ref. to write it up on the web somewhere but I didn't have the foresight to do it. I just sat in my car for an hour with both clusters and both wiring harnesses and traced the leads on the back of each cluster.Only thing I had trouble with was getting the turn signal crap straight. Many of the colors were the same or similiar though, just the plugs and pin locations differed. It was a lot of trail and error is all I can say. I think the very first time I wired everything up I had the temp gauge and gas gauge wires reversed and it was pretty obvious when I started the car but no damaged was done. Tach sensor wire was pretty obvious and same color and gauge wire. Only took about an hour though and I am by no means an electrical or mechanical expert, so it shouldn't be too hard.
