Got a 2001+ civic and changed the oil? (yourself)
Hey there,
I was changing the oil on my g/f's 2002 civic coupe- got the filter from the dealer, and it was the "same size as any other filter honda makes" from like 1980+. Same size as my integra, etc.
But the filter on the car (from the factory) was smaller in diameter. Problem is the bigger filter does not tighten up on the car and it seems to bottom out right when the gasket makes contact.
I got a fram filter at the local parts store, (smaller size like oem filter) because it was a Saturday and the parts were not open (at dealer) till monday.
Took the filter back today and they said they are using the big ones, and do not use the small ones. (and pretty much were ignorant on the subject)
What gives? RSX, Elements, Civics, etc are using these.....
What did you use?

i use the larger filter you get from a local honda dealership for my mom's 02 civic.
i was told the smaller 7th gen filter is a japanese made filter and the larger ones are american made.
i've changed oil in my mom's 02 civic 3 times already and have had no problems.

Solution:
Ok, I called ahmotor.com, and here's what they said...
Honda put out a bulletin that stated the larger filters can be used "in a pinch". They allow for a lower oil pressure in the system and thus you get less flow.
Hence, the smaller filters have a better pressure effect on the oil system and better lubrication is the result. (at high rpm especially)
ahmotor sells them for like 4.50 each.
Big thumbs down to my dealer (Jay Honda) and all the other dealers selling and using the wrong ones. There's no reason to use the wrong parts- unless you are a ford dealer.
