Default Is this a good reason why my car would consume alot of gas

Hey what up everybody.

I go to school in Tallahassee FL and had made a drive to Jacksonville FL which is about 170 miles away and I used almost a whole tank. This is a 10 gallon tank by the way and I have a stock LS motor in the engine bay. What I was thinking was that maybe because of the cold weather and the fact that I have no thermostat in the cooling system the car was forced to operate below normal opperating temperatures. Im talking about the needle was stuck on the "C." When the ECU senses this cold tempurature from the ECT sensor does then richen the air fuel mixture causing my car to experience low gas mileage. What do you guys think

not having the thermo def won't help but also how you were driving would dicatate that kind of gas mileage as well.

Any more info on how you were driving and anything done to the motor? stock ecu?

You will definitely get much better gas mileage by reinstalling a thermostat.

I have a stock P75 ecu. the motor is completely stock with a fresh rebuild. and I say I would hold 85-90 with just me and a girl in the car.

certainly less than 20.. if he has a 10 gallon tank, and is almost on empty after driving 170 miles, i would guess somewhere around 18mpg. assuming he's got about another 10 miles or so before he's completely out.

correct! I'm gonna try putting back in the thermostat and making the same drive this time with higher temperatures and see if the gas mileage changes.

WHY was the thermostat removed in the first place?

Usually someone removes a t-stat because of some other cooling system issue that is eluding a diagnosis.

Also besides the fuel mileage, operating that engine at C all the time is a great way to ruin the bottom end as the piston rings rely on being at a certain temp to expand enough to work as engineered.
