good price on ek
Not sure if this is the right section but I was wondering what a good price for an ek would be. I wasn't planning on spending any more than 5 but looking around it's really hard to find one for under 5 with less than a 100k miles.

Re: good price on ek (leeleee)
Because you're looking for one with under 100k miles. Even at the average 12k a year, a 96 is going to have ~120k miles, and a 2000 is going to have almost 80k.
You can definately find one for under 5k, but generally, Civics get a lot of miles put on them because they're good commuter econo-cars.

Thanks. I was also wondering, with a 110-130k mile civic will it run much longer or will I be paying more for the maintenence?

Re: good price on ek (leeleee)
I have a 97 HX (its a coupe, but doesn't matter) with the stock D16Y5 and I have 165,000 miles on it. I haven't replaced anything other than regular maintenance (oil, filters, brakes). Everything still works perfectly. Civics are very long-lasting cars.
Are you planning on swapping out the SOHC? Because if you are, you shouldn't care about mileage anyway.

at the 90k mark, theres a major engine tune up on th e car. its scheduled for belts, valve adjustment, new gaskets, water pump... after that, you got a ways to go. since youre looking at the 100k plus area, make sure that these were performed at the 90k mark. otherwise be prepared to spend almost a grand on this scheduled maintainance.

Re: good price on ek (PhatBoy5015)
I wish I could find an EK for under $5000. I paid $4,500 for my '94 Civic EX three years ago everything is so expensive here in WA. Despite I paid quite a bit for it, I've had very few problems with it and I'm very happt I bought it.

thats about the same market i was in in california. but the ek is cheaper because the ex is the highest model of the eg coupes. the ek only comes in cheap trims. the highest i think is "dx"

For Civic hatchbacks it comes in DX and CX. The Coupe comes in DX, HX and EX and also Si for years 1999-2000. The sedan also comes in DX, LX and EX.

Well, bluebook on my EX right now is about $3,000. I was driving by a local dealership last week and I saw a 96-98 sedan going for $10,000. It's ridiculous out here.

yeah the used car market is really weird right now... it forced me to get a new car, sicne itjust wasnt worth it to save the few grand on a used car. i never really go by used car dealership prices though, they vary so much.
edit... again, you cant compare two different gens... liket hat. the cars dotn depreciate on a linear scale. after a certain amount of time, they take a huge dive, then flatten out, like the prices of your years. int he first few years, you see tons of used cars going for almost what they were new. you gotta look at each specific year, model, trim, on a case by case basis

Well, then that's an easy fix. Get the 96-98 and do a 99-00 conversion on it. Problem solved.

Re: (slowEJ8)
I drive 60000km year with my 1998 si(canadian). I bought it with a B16a2(usdm) swap for 3500 cdn. The climate control was swapped to 99/2000 sir and I did the 99/2000 front end
Find a retard that put 5000-6000 into the car and buy it. This guy still owed 3400 when I bought it from him(he showed me the bank pay out on the lein) less money for me to invest and great bang for my dollar IMO.

Re: (johnny_tdi)
I recently bought a mint condition (like off the showroom floor mint) garage kept, 101,000 mile 2000 civic hatchback in silver for 5500. It was driven by a grampa in indiana and it is the cleanest version of the 99-00 I have ever seen ever. Was it worth 5500? I think so because I payed for a flawless, well taken care of car.
