Good deal or not 2000 Blue Civic Si EM1 for $5000
I'm really looking to get a ej8/em1 soon, and one just came up on craigslist
He said he has had it for ~2 years and it is stock with no mods.
It has 117k miles and no problems/major accidents besides a scratch and blemish.
He says he'll take $5000 cash
Is this a good deal? I mean are these cars rare or anything? I don't mind paying a little more for a well taken care of car, but I just don't know enough about SI's to make a judgement

I've always wanted a blue si since highschool so I really want some other opinions so I don't make a hasty decision.
One more thing.....he said the car has been smoked in before him, but he had the filter changed and vents cleaned..does that work?

It may be worth bring for an inspection at a Honda dealer also, if you are still learning about cars. I find these inspections are great, as no used car is perfect, you can use any problems with it, against the purchase price which ends up paying for the inspection

That's a good idea. I know a little bit about Hondas. I have a del sol and older civic ex, but that's not really saying much......I really just wanted to see if people thought this was drastically overpriced. I really don't mind paying high nada value on it if it is a nice car. I just don't want to get ripped off and don't know how rare civic si's are? Especially blue ones

Pretty much what i'm asking is should a mod free, blue 2000 EM1 be worth the $1000 premium over nada? Not necessarily this car, just blue EM1s in general

It looks pretty good.
The smoking isn't horrible. Spend 30-40 bucks on a shampooer, and get to work
I would pay that price. I can honestly say that..
Ask him if he has receipts for anything.

ya that seems like its a decent price for an EM1... just make sure you get it looked over and everything so that you dont have any problems with it on a daily basis...
personally i wouldn't even really mod that car just keep the em1 stock untill you find something else to drive, then throw the civic in the garage and throw some money into it.
but thats all you brotha... go for it, i personally am a fan of blue SiRs.

Drive it see how it feels. Ask for receipts or some kind of proof the timing belt was done. Also ask of the water pump was done at the same time, since there supposed to changed around 100k. Definitely worth that price if its clean and runs well. There selling in my area for around that with more miles.

I really hope it isn't gone by friday. He says he has someone making a decison on it today. If he wasn't 2hrs away, I would have already checked it out. But come friday, if it's still there and carfax/inspection are clean, it will be mine. Fingers crossed

Priced too low honestly.
This car is either salvaged, or it needs work. Clean titled SIs go for $6000 no problem, even with 180k. Clean ones are more like 7-8. Once you actually start looking for a clean SI, you'll realize how beat-to-hell 90% of them are.
I gladly paid $5700 for mine, and it's a salvaged theft recovery, with 130k. Granted, it had brand new paint and a rebuilt motor with receipts for both... but finding a clean titled one in CA, with low miles and original body panels is next to freaking impossible. When you do find them, they're 9 grand.
Make sure the car has never been wrecked, make sure all the vin #s match up on the fenders, tranny, engine, etc, and make sure it doesn't smoke. I'd pay to have a compression test done if I was you.
If it's ever been in an accident... walk away. You'll thank me later.

I paid $6400 for mine, bone stock, clean title, 104,*** miles, EBP color. Now make sure you GO THROUGH IT VERY CAREFULLY. Mine looked good, popped the hood and it had an ITR tranny with LSD in it, Asked the dealer about it he got all defensive like I was implying something bad about the car... The motor was fresh also with very high compression test numbers and even after 6K on the oil it was still very clean like it just came outta the bottle... Could be a good thing or a bad thing but the title was clear so I bought it anyway.

I would imagine imports are a little more popular in Cali than lower Alabama lol. Hence the price difference. But yeah I am starting to lean towards that inspection if he ever writes back. If not I found a 00 Si in Biloxi with 156k for $3500
