Default Good Camshaft for Nitrous?

I have heard that the Zex Street/Strip for SOHC is a good choice for use with nitrous because of its big exhaust duration and lift. Is this true? What SOHC camshaft would be best to use with a big shot of nitrous? Anyone have any dynos?

How about Zex Street/Strip or Crower Stage 3?

I prefer stock cam with any forced induction.

From reading your other posts, your going to be adding the gas to a D series motor right?

I agree. I recommend this too, for the simple reason that your stock cam has minimal overlap, reducing the "bleeding" that happens with wild, high overlap cams. This is why regrinds are nice for this type of application, stock overlap but higher lift and more duration.

If you want to have your engine and going FI, do NOT get the stage 3.

i would get something similar to this

http://www.crower.com/cgi-bin/...63441

Stage 1 - Features far more agressive ramp rate then stock with added duration. Excellent for turbo and nitrous. Idle to 7200+ rpm.

I have a pretty one minded theory on power for a stock D series bottom end. If your all about drag racing, then this may be applicable for you.

A stock D series bottom end can handle on average 200HP to the wheels. I have heard outragous numbers above that and I heard of engines blowing with less than that.

The max average you will be able to put down is 200HP with out blowing your **** up.

It dosent matter wether you gain HP from the cam, or a cam gear. Or Nitrous.

I say spray a 100 shot and chill with it! but.. thats just me.. im lazy.!

So why waste money on a cam? lol If a cam gives you 5 HP.. and your spraying a 100 shot.. then.. woohoo.. thats 105 HP. So, just alter the pills to give you more power and **** the cam lol...................... again.. im lazy

How does this sound for his situation: Obtain a camshaft with stock overlap, but a bit more duration and lift. This way, he gains a few ponies when he is off the juice (which is 99% of the time) yet he will not hurt nitrous performance due to it's stock overlap, less bleeding off the stuff that makes the power on the juice, cylinder pressure. Also, A cam that makes 5 hp NA, might makes power exponentially or none additional at all when juiced, it depends on the profile.

Any d series motor can take enough nitrous to pop a rod. Period.

Power is power.

thanks, jared, i understand this a little better now. So the reason more overlap causes loss of power with nitrous is you lose some of it through the exhaust valves? This is why turbo/supercharged/nitrous prefers less overlap and n/a prefers more overlap.

lol.. I know im being a bad influence on you ryan, but lets look at this scenerio:

You just installed your ZEX System and put in the 50 Shot pills.

You take if for a ride and:
Woohoo, that was amazing.

Day 2, you want more power..........
You spend 300 dollars on a new cam that will give you maybe 10 HP,
Or you spend about 5 minutes and pop in the 75 shot pill and wala, 25 more HP.

Thats just how I look at it.

50 shot pills??? ****, i never even used those. the 75's went straight in. i'm going to 100 shot, but have a good feeling more power will be wanted. that's were the cam and higher compression pistons come in.

JSPECEX, i already found a block, but check anyways because i may still need it.

I havent blown up any here yet. Waste your money on a cam instead of spending 5 minutes to bump it up to a 100 shot. Save the real loot for a swap.

I'd rather spend $300 on a cam and get 10hp, $300 on a GSR TB and port match IM, then $3000 on a B16 and get the same amount of horsepower. My motor rebuild will cost $1200 since I am doing all the labor and found parts at good prices. I'd rather have the rebuilt D with more compression, more aggressive cam, for $1800, then the torqueless B16 for $3000.

I am going to 100 shot, I agree with that. but not until I have my block finished, and have bigger injectors.
