Default Good affordable parts for 97 EX

I'm new to the racing game, so i was wondering what are recommended parts and definitely an engine for my 97 honda civic EX. Also, what are most important and least important, for i may be buying some stuff before others. any suggestions are welcome, thank you!

Okay two questions...intake exhaust, you mean both a cold air intake and a catback exhaust? another is 91 octane..is that a part so the car can take premium fuel?

Could you link a good suggestion for a muffler? or show me some specs i should be looking for in a muffler? price REALLY isn't an issue, so anything i can find well is good.

Stop spreading ******* lies. A y8 does not need 91 octane, and you will not feel a difference.

You will also feel no difference with a muffler, and almost nothing with a caback exhaust. Basically, I/H/E is good for 5whp TOTAL. It's all placebo effect; sounds louder, so you press harder, you think you're faster. Don't listen to this asshat, he propagates lies and bullshit. Do suspension, brakes, tires first. Don't bother building anything on your y8 motor unless you want to do a Turbo-D.

Really the only way you will feel a big difference is with a motor swap, or turbo. All the other stuff basically just makes you think you're getting faster.

So the best thing to do is just save up for a swap or save up to boost it. Otherwise, you'll be very disappointed with the money you spent.

wow whatever you do stop listening to leroyb.

if you want to waste money bying i/h/e for the single cam and get like 5 hp then go ahead and still run a 17. if you want to make real power out of a d series turbo it.

since you aren't going to that right now do yourself a favor and buy something worth you money. some full coilovers (not the sleeve type) like omni power, skunk 2, tein, k sport, ect. suspension is a super good investment and worth your time since you obviously need to read around here more.

You could stay with your D series engine and turbo it and do quite well. You could also swap a B16 (for turbo'ing only...its my opinion) or a B18c1 (integra GSR engine) and go from there. For your first alteration to your car I would HIGHLY recommend a reputable adjustable coilover set (HR, Tein, Tanabe are a couple). Don't buy "drop springs" as they are the worst thing you can do to your car. The shock cannot rebound due to it being so low and it turns into a horrible ride for your car.
Edit: and don't listen to LeroyB...

This kid doesn't know much about cars, i dont believe a turbo is necessary. Some good automotive education should be first on his list. This whole thread is a piece of crap. For all of you that say you either need a motor or a turbo on the y8, check this out:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1716907

And like a few others have said, dont bother with 91. You're an idiot if you think after filling up with it you feel a difference. Before anything else though, dont bother taking LeroyB's advice.

It's easier to bolt on a greddy kit than it is to mildly build a D. Cracking the head/block = way more work.

Of course its easier. Anyone can throw a turbo on a single cam and go fast. It's much more impressive when someone can pull those numbers out of an N/A single cam, and its still totally streetable.

Edit: But Seriously Jesterball, learn a thing or two about cars before you go buyin all kinds of parts. It'll help you to make your own decisions rather than relying on HT users to tell you what to buy.

Oh, I agree with you fully. I'm saying, for HIS purposes, it's a whole lot easier to get a greddy kit and bolt it on, than to match parts propperly, and install them yourself. Heck, it's probably even cheaper too. Building a motor is not for someone of his knowledge level......

Granted, niether is a turbo kit
