Gonna build a motor...but need transmission advice!
Hey everyone-
I bought an almost-complete D16Z6 a couple of weeks ago (it just needs a crank, oil pan, oil pump, and valve cover) for $150. I'm planning on forging the bottom end, new valves, new springs, Nitrous cam, and hella nitrous. One thing I'm having a problem with though is a trans. The tranny that's in my Sol right now is starting to go, and I need some advice on a good strong tranny that will hold up to the power I'll be producing. I've heard that the Z6 tranny has aluminum shift forks that are weak which is bad I suppose...anyone have advice on strongest tranny, best gearing, etc? Thanks- Brett

I'll be the first to say the D16Y8 transmission. It has the shortest gears (like the z6) but with "stronger" shift forks. They are steel, so they bend, unlike the aluminum which just breaks and causes catastrophic failures.

The Y8 tranny from (96-00) has steel shift forks which are stronger than the aluminum in the Z6. I've also heard good things about JDM D15B VTEC trannies with LSD in them.

Anyone have further information on the D15B VTEC LSD tranny? any other opinions/info? Anything is appreciated. Thanks

I'm really 2slow
the d15b tranny runs pretty expensive around 500$. I would get a d16z6 or y8 with a 4.7 or 4.9 srr final drive and lsd if I was building something like what you have in mind

Re: (2FAST4U831)
Thanks for all the input, it is greatly appreciated. It will be awhile until I'm ready to buy a tranny, and I'll do some thinkin' until then. Thanks again.

jdm d15b tranny are hard to come by and expensive.
Heard the LSD isnt as good as everyone thinks, they tend to break.
(more on higher power turbo D's then anything).
