My buddy had his engine bay sprayed black without removing the motor, although a shop did it for him when they did the rest of his body work. Taking the motor out takes time and costs money. That's probably the reason why he doesn't want to do it "the right way."

just get some saran wrap, removed your mounts and support the motor with a jack and wrap the motor up.

then spray away.

and of course you won't match your paint with a rattle can.

i just did mine..got pics..i can send them to you if you give me a email address..it turned out pretty nice..its a single cam though..a little easier to do..and the head was off so i had better access to the fire wall..dropped the power steering to the center..washer bottle out..headlights out..all that good stuff..let me know if you wanna check them out..i'll hit u wit em....and takin the motor out isnt always the best option..all of us dont have access to a garage 24/7 and the access to a hoist and all that stuff..i did this in a friends driveway..and still came out great..its not a show car..its a daily driven summer car..dont look perfect but a whole lot better than the stock paint in the engine bay...

Go to Earl and find the color code they used, Then go to a paint store and they can mix the exact paint in a rattle can in a single stage, Like they said wrap the motor, Wipe the engine bay with some prep-sol, when your at the paint place, get some scotch pads to scuff the engine bay. I'd lay some primer down after you scotch brite and wipe it down again, then lay down paint. I work in a body and powdercoating shop, Its an easy weekend job! BTW Earl is most likely a single stage paint anyways
