Default Going to look at a 95 Ex soon. What should I look for?

Well I'm going to go look at a 95 Ex soon. What kind of things should I look for/pay attention to? I do plan on test driving it with in the next few days here. Thanks.

check to see if its been in an accident. check for overspray and what not, twisted fender bolts, and the like. lord knows why you want a 95 EX but good luck.

There may be water leaking into the passenger footwell because of insufficient sealer on the seam at the firewall. Look for rust on the floor pan and run water over the right lower corner of the windshield to watch for water leaks before buying the car. I'd take it to a drive thru wash also and watch the rear of the sunroof. I'd also check to see if the doors were starting to sag by looking for wear marks in the paint, and look for rust on the exhaust mid-pipe right where it connects to the cat.

Werd on the passenger side floorpan... if it's raining out, check and see if it's wet. Mine leaks all the time whenever it gets wet, soaks the carpet on the passenger side. Need to fix that...

Other stuff to check: trunk, look for rust and/or water in the spare tire well... check the trunk seal, mine leaks and water builds up in there.

Because I like the car, not because it's in style. Is that okay with you?

One of the easiest ways to tell if body panels have been replaced is to look for the "Vin" stickers on all the body parts!! If those parts are original then there will be a sticker with that cars vin!

For example; The fenders have it on the top inside lip when you open the hood. ALL of the stickers are very visible in open view!! And they are made to not just fall of!!

Some people prefer a car with some extra luxuries, over a lighter car with nothing in it. Hence the reason I bought my Civic Si over a DX with an engine swap - it's got lots of extra great stuff. Not to mention the resale value is higher . . .

ex rock love the options...make sure they all work and that panels are ok make sure that the sunroof doesnt stick...you can lose weight on the civic so dont sweat the weight that much...sure it wont be as light as its brothers but it can still lose weight...ex look sweet in my opinion.

About the windshield leak problem...honda should fix that for free. There is a used car book called Lemon-aid or something and it has factory recalls and warrenties. That is covered by honda as a free fix.

make you you check out if the power windows are working ok too. The regulator on my driver's side crapped out on me a year ago.....from what Ive seen honda power windows are notorious for problems. And of course like some of the people already said check for rust.

Honda will fix that for free? Even on an older car? The only recall history I found for 92-95 was:
NHTSA Recall History

1992-94: Retaining clip at automatic transmission can come off, so position of lever does not match actual transmission gear range.
1994: Passenger-side airbag module on small number of cars may contain incorrect inflator, therefore unable to provide adequate protection.

If Honda will fix it, I've got a job for them...

Ah yes, the power windows. The driver's side window in my '93 EX was one unpredictable bastard . . .

Those are only recall notices. I'd be willing to be that the leaky windshield problem was in a technical service bulletin, which is not the same as a recall. A list of TSBs for the '93-95 Civic EX can be found here.

Call a bank and get a loan value for the car. Check for it's value, and also market value. Pay somewhere in between.

Check for rust above the rear wheels, along the tops of the fenders and inside the lip.

Check the trunk for water in the spare tire well.

Make sure everything works. Try out all the power stuff, turn the lights on and check the interior bulbs, check the A/C to see if it turns on and is cold. Look for leaks in the interior.

If you do buy the car, the first thing you should do is rip the rubber strips out of the back wheel well lips. They are just glued in, and cause moisture to build up and rust out the rear fenders and quarters.

My girlfriend almost cried when I did that to her new car, but then I showed her my 93 hatch, and the rust spot above each wheel, and she understood.

Ditto.
Eric - who like to carry around a few gallons of water in his trunk.

Anybody ever have any electrical problems? The lights on my climate controls come and go from time to time

Edit: Get a 93, they're lighter at 2395 lbs.
