Getting spring grinding noise when turning wheel?
If I very very slowly turn my wheel while the car is not on a jack stand, there is noise that sounds like a spring is winding and its quite loud.
I was wondering what happens if the power steering shaft would sound like if it were going bad? I dont know if its called a shaft or not but im only thinking it is since the axels are shafts and this PS shaft is seperate from the axels.
The boot on the PS shaft looks like it nor longer seals in the inside of the shaft since its loose. Id also gander to say that it is cracked at the end, however would this cause the noise?
The bushings all around the car appear to be in good condition. So I cant say its really the bushings or not.
I don't think its the struts because it doesnt make any noise if i push down on the car unless I push reallyyyy hard. However if i slightly turn the wheel just a hair it makes that annoying noise.

My guess would be the ball joints too. Especially if it's getting cold where you are at. It's more likely to squeak/squeal if it's cold. Another thing to check could be the tie rod end bushings.

you can go to a parts store and ask them, and theyll point you to it, but only certain balljoints can be greased i have no idea abt honda's but their has to be a grease cone fitting if not then they have to be replaced

If you turn the wheel very very slowly it makes the sound. I cant see this to be anything to do with struts since you have to move up and down on the car in order for them to react.
I question the ball joints as well since they are not even affected much buy this tiny bit of movement.

i don't exactly know where this upper strut mount bearing is. When i installed them, I only saw a small cushioning on the strut that hits a round plastic piece which also protects the spring from hitting the top of the engine bay. Other than that, there are just mounting bolts at the top of the strut.

Re: Getting spring grinding noise when turning wheel?
the upper strut mount has a bearing in it which allows the strut to turn when you turn the wheel. if this bearing is worn out or locked up then when you turn the wheel one way youll be trying to uncoil the spring, when you turn the wheel the other way, youll be trying to coil the spring tighter. which could very well translate into a sping noise when you turn the wheel.

Could be that your heat shield behind your breaks is rubbing somewhere, I had the same issue just had to bend my heatshield into a better place so it didnt rub anything.

could be the shield.
to grease the balljoints you have to pull the boot down and fill it with grease then put the boot back on.
i did see one 95 civic with fittings on the balljoints, but they may have been aftermarket

Re: Getting spring grinding noise when turning wheel?
Correct me if I am wrong:
Honda Civics with Double Wishbone Front Suspension do not have mount bearings therefore there are no bearings gone bad.
Mount Bearings are mated to McPherson Strut Suspensions and if the bearing is siezed or getting bad its called spring wind up.

Ok this is still going on and it seems to be getting worse now the more i turn the wheel.
It used to only happen when I slightly turn the wheel, now it happens when I turn the wheel more on either side.
It doesn't make the sound when I turn the wheel hard to the left or right. I'm thinking that in time it probably will.
